Joyce Ann McCauley-Himes, 39, of Cove Ark., died Monday, July 29, 2013, in Hot Springs, Ark.
She was born Dec. 26, 1973, in Staton, Ore, to Tommy McCauley and Joyce (McCauley) Wilson. She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Allen and Perl McCauley and Arthur and Elizabeth Morrison; father, Tommy Wayne McCauley; and brother, Donnie Gene Underwood.

During the seventh annual Women's Business Conference held Friday at the Donald W. Reynolds Community Center in Poteau about 30 women learned about safety. Poteau police Lt. Gregg Russell spoke about safety while Poteau School Resource Officer Donnie Williams demonstrated self-defense. The women practiced the tactics during the demonstration.

Air Force Maj. Trevor L. Williams has been promoted to the rank of major in the U.S. Air Force.
Williams is a C-17A pilot assigned to the 437th Airlift Wing at Charleston Air Force Base, S.C.Â The new major has served in the military for nine years.Â
He is the son of Teresa Williams of Rock Island Road, Cameron, Okla. His wife, Brianna, is the daughter of Randy and Sherree Coulson of Independence Circle, Texarkana, Texas.
Navy Airman Apprentice Branden X. Kinkade, son of Stephanie L. and Travis L. Kinkade of Spiro, recently completed U.S. Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill.Â
During the eight-week program, Kinkade completed a variety of training which included classroom study and practical instruction on naval customs, first aid, firefighting, water safety and survival, and shipboard and aircraft safety. An emphasis was also placed on physical fitness.Â
The Poteau First United Methodist Church, located at 109 S. Harper, is hosting an "End of Summer / Back to School Bash" on Sunday, Aug. 11 from 5 to 7:30 p.m.Â Â
There will be free hamburgers, games, free goody bags, and free haircuts,Â vision screenings, and dental screenings for school-age children.Â The free services and goody bags will be on a first-come, first-served basis.
There will also be a free drawing for a boy's and girl's backpack for two of the children present, each filled with school supplies.

BIXBY â Two Poteau High School graduating wrestlers got one last prep match under their belts at the Oklahoma Coaches Association All-State Games Small School Wrestling Dual, which took place Wednesday night at Bixby High School.
Tyler Tustin, a two-time state champion and was state runner-up last February who will wrestle collegiately at the University of Central Oklahoma in Edmond, won his match at 138 pounds with a 4-0 victory over Anadarko's Blake Trescott.
Poteau High School students who will participate in extra-curricular activities this upcoming school year will have their drug testing take place this month inside the senior hall of the high school.
Drug testing will take place from 8 a.m. to noon Aug. 14.
Cost is $10 cash per student.

On July 25, I, along with Richard, Mike, Jim and Matthew Reif, âborrowedâ a GMC Acadia belonging to Richard's wife, Paula, and headed to Green Bay, Wis. â also known as âTitletown, USAâ and home of my beloved Packers â to be present when the Packers started this season's training camp.
