1 dead, several injured in weekend wreck

According to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, Barbara Montgomery, 43, of Red Oak was killed Friday night in a four-car accident east of Fanshawe.
The accident report shows a 2012 Nissan driven by a Poteau woman east on U.S. Highway 270 failed to see another car stopped to make a left hand turn. When the driver of the Nissan took evasive action by entering the westbound lane she struck head on a 2005 Dodge that Montgomery was a passenger in, according to the accident report.

Pocola fundraiser sends players to camp

The Pocola Quarterback Club held a garage sale and participated in the Dodge test drive event Saturday raising $4,600 to help the school's football players attend training camps.

Pocola, Spiro boys make championship semifinals at 2014 Tiger Shootout; Indians, Bulldogs destined to meet in today's finals

SALLISAW — The Pocola Indians and the Spiro Bulldogs each won their opening-round game in the 2014 Tiger Shootout on Thursday.
The Indians beat the Muldrow Bulldogs 8-3, while the ’Dogs routed the Roland Rangers 15-0.
Pocola met Vian on Friday afternoon right before Spiro faced Westville in the championship semifinals. The winners will meet at 5 today for the title, while the losers will play at 2:30 this afternoon for third place.

Arkoma boys fall to McCurtain

McCURTAIN — The Arkoma Mustangs suffered a 10-2 road loss to the McCurtain Bulldogs on Thursday afternoon in a game called in the sixth inning due to the run rule.
Thanks to an RBI triple by Josh Marion in the first inning, the Mustangs took a 2-0 lead.
The Bulldogs tied the game in their half of the inning, then slowly pulled away. A sixth-inning run put the game into run-rule status.

Poteau boys make Coal Mining Classic championship semifinals; Heavener Wolves go 1-1 on opening day

The Poteau Pirates baseball team won its opening-round game in the Coal Mining Classic on Thursday night in Wilburton, doubling the Stigler Panthers 8-4.
The Pirates played in the championship semifinals Friday night in Wilburton, with a win putting them into this afternoon's title game at 3:30 p.m. in Hartshorne. A loss Friday night put them into the third-place game at 1:15 this afternoon.

CASC baseball team splits road doubleheader against NOC-Tonkawa; Same two teams meet this afternoon at Ival Goodman Field

TONKAWA — The Carl Albert State College baseball team split its road doubleheader Thursday afternoon against the Northern Oklahoma College-Tonkawa Mavericks. The Vikings held on to win the nightcap 9-8 after losing the opener 4-3 in eight innings.
The same two teams will go at it in a doubleheader beginning at 1:30 this afternoon at Ival Goodman Field.

NEO women sweep softball pair from Carl Albert Lady Vikings; Lady Vikings meet archrival Eastern this afternoon in Wilburton

MIAMI, Okla. — The Carl Albert State College Lady Vikings softball team suffered a pair of losses Thursday afternoon against Northeastern Oklahoma A&M, which took both games by run-rule victories. After taking the opener 14-5 in five innings, the Lady Norse took the nightcap 10-1 in six innings.
The Lady Vikings will hit the road today to face their archrivals, the Eastern Oklahoma State College Lady Mountaineers, in a 2 p.m. doubleheader in Wilburton.
