Mary Lee Fullen, 68, of Panama died Sunday, July 14, 2013. in Fort Smith, Ark.Â Services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 17, at First Baptist Church, Shady Point, under the direction of Evans and Miller Funeral Home, Poteau.
Ernest Wesley Jenson, 86, of Wister died Saturday, July 13, 2013. He was born June 12, 1927, to Howard and Lahoma (Webb) Jenson in Poteau. Ernest was a graduate of Poteau High School and served in the Navy during WWII. He was owner and operator of Jensonâ€™s Furniture in Wister until his retirement in 1982. He was one of the five who founded the Wister Fire Department and also served on the board of directors for Wister State Bank. Ernest was a member of the Broadway Church of Christ in Poteau.
Ernest was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Reba Sherrod.
Vertie Novelia Warrick, 92, of Poteau died Sunday, July 14, 2013, in Poteau.
ClarenceÂ Walter â€śSonnyâ€ť Fair, 78 of Panama went to be with his Lord and his beloved wife, Emma Sue, on July 13, 2013, in Poteau. He was born in Panama on Nov. 2, 1934 to Bonnie and Buford Fair. He retired from Riverside Furniture and was on the town council of Panama.
He is preceded in death by his parents; loving wife of 59 years, Emma Sue; sister, Christine Hastings; and niece, Jennifer Currens.
Sherman Joe Chitwood, 84, of Summerfield died Friday, July 12, 2013, in Summerfield. He was born Jan. 30, 1929, in Poteau to Omer and Maude (Kelly) Chitwood. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, a poultry farmer, rancher and jack of all trades. Joe was also a member of Heavener Masonic Lodge 146 and was a Shriner.
Joe is preceded in death by his parents; a son, Mike Chitwood; and his brother, Kelly Chitwood.
Alonso Aquirre has been awarded the Eliza Kinkhead Bulgin Memorial Scholarship.
High School: Heavener.
Activities, Honors: U.S. History Award, Perfect Attendance Award.
Hobbies and Interests: Martial arts.
National forest fire managers began a prescribed burn Saturday in the Walker Mountain area in Scott County, Ark., in the Ouachita National Forests.
About 212 acres are affected.
A prescribed fire is one is ignited by trained fire personnel under specified fuel and weather conditions to achieve specific resource objectives.
