Poteau wrestler wins MC title; Seven Pirates medal in conference tournament

STILWELL — Poteau wrestler Tyler Tustin won the 138-pound title at last weekend’s Maverick Conference Tournament. Tustin, who got a first-round bye, beat Wagoner’s Bryan Drake by a 14-0 major decision in the semfinals and defeated Sallisaw’s Gabe Taylor 3-1 in the finals.
All total, seven Pirates medaled. Derek Francis (170 pounds) came in second after losing in the finals to Sallisaw’s Cale Wilson.
Devin Anderson (120 pounds) and Daylon Brewton (heavyweight) were third. Kyle Kingrey (160 pounds), Khy Mote (182) and Gabe Sanchez (195) all placed fourth.

Bokoshe teams split road games against Kinta Eagles

KINTA — The Bokoshe High School basketball teams split their Monday night road games against Kinta.
The Lady Tigers rallied from an early deficit to down the Lady Eagles 55-38, but the Eagles flew past the Tigers 75-22.

LeFlore County Sheriff's Department investigates stabbing

The LeFlore County Sheriff's Department is investigating a stabbing that occurred on Third Street in Fort Coffee Tuesday afternoon.
According to Undersheriff Kendall Morgan, a man is being treated at Sparks Hospital in Fort Smith, Ark., after having his throat cut.
A search for the person responsible for the stabbing is ongoing.

Carroll Lynn Sutton, 55, of Coweta died Monday, Jan. 28, 2013. Services will be held at at 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 31, at Mallory-Martin Funeral Home Chapel in Spiro. Burial will be in New Hope Cemetery.

C.A. Overstreet, 93, of Keota died Monday. Jan. 28, 2013.
Services are planned for 10 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 30, at Mallory-Martin Funeral Home Chapel in Stigler.

Terry Dean Childers

Terry Dean Childers, 51, of Pocola died Sunday, Jan. 27, 2013, in Pocola. Terry was born Oct. 7, 1961, in Fort Smith, Ark., to James Harold and Norma Lee (Chaffin) Childers. He was a truck driver and mechanic. He was preceded in death by his parents; grandparents, Maurice and Dovie Chaffin, Cecil and Addie Childers; and nephew, Harold “Red” Brown. Our brother, our best friend and our handyman for anything or anybody, he was always there to lend a helping hand. He was a good man with a big heart and he loved his family dearly. He will be dearly missed.
