PANAMA â€” After a two-year hiatus from the bench of the Panama High School boys basketball team, Ryne Perdue is back.
After spending the last two years at Muskogee, Perdue is returning to take over the coaching duties with the Panama Razorbacks basketball team.
â€śWhen I was here before, it was a great place to be,â€ť Perdue said. â€śThe people were great. That wasn't the nature of me leaving. With the opportunity to come back and the position open, It seemed like a good thing to do.â€ť
The Rev. James Mabry, formerly of Fairview, died Monday, July 1, 2013, at Baylor Medical Center in Dallas. He was 89.
James was born April 1, 1924, to Florence and Eric Emory Mabry in Hughes. He served in World War II as a merchant seaman.Â
James met and married his soul mate, Yoshiko Kanashiro on March 19, 1953, in Yokohama, Japan.
A Stigler man died last Wednesday after diving into a lake, according to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol.
An accident report completed by the OHP said Vernon Michael Reynolds, 51, dove off a courtesy dock at John Wells Lake in Haskell County at about 6:15 p.m. Family called the Stigler Police Department after Reynolds' failed to resurface.
The OHP and Stigler Fire Department were both called to help find Reynolds.
Stigler Fire Department recovered Reynolds' body, according to the report.
The District 4 Choctaw Princess Pageant was held and the following girls were crowned to represent District 4 for the 2013-2014 year.Â Senior Miss Callie Curnutt, Junior Miss Jordan Carver and Little Miss Amber Battice along with Mr. Delton Cox, District 4 Councilman.Â The girls will be competing in the Choctaw Nation Pageant during the Tuskahoma Labor Day Festival.
TULSA, Okla. (AP) â€” Oklahoma is backing out of a testing consortium to work with another company to develop its own standardized tests for the 2014-2015 school year, State Superintendent Janet Barresi said this week.
Barresi said the decision to withdraw from the multistate group â€” called the Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers â€” was made after teachers and parents voiced concerns about the extra hours of test taking that would be involved with it.
