The Boys and Girls Club of LeFlore County will have a basketball tournament for boys and girls in grades three through six Dec. 3-4 at the Pansy Kidd Middle School Gym.
Cost to enter is $100 per team. Registration forms are available at the LCBGC office at 205 Dewey Avenue, Suite 6 in downtown Poteau. For additional information, call David Deaton at (918) 647-7136.

The Oklahoma State University 2011 Christmas Baseball Camps will be next month at Allie P. Reynolds Stadium in Stillwater.

Community Thanksgiving Dinner still has needs

Every year for the last seven years Jim Berngen has put together a community Thanksgiving dinner. Every year the number of meals prepared during the dinner has increased dramatically. This year is no different, he is expecting a large crowd.
Berngen said donations for the dinner are still needed. He said he has plenty of corn and green beans but is still looking for things like canned sweet potatoes, cranberry sause, brown and serve rolls and deserts of all kinds including sugar free.

Jerry Allen Patton

Jerry Allen Patton, 67, of Poteau died Thursday, Nov. 17, 2011, in Fort Smith, Ark. Jerry was born July 15, 1944, in Lequire to James Wiley and Myrtle Pauline (Nelson) Patton. Jerry was retired from Rheem and was a veteran of the U.S. Army who served in Vietnam. He was a member of the Poteau Masonic Lodge, 32nd Degree Mason. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, James Earl Patton, and stepdaughter, Trisha.

Commissioners to meet Monday

A Pocola man has asked to speak before the LeFlore County Commissioners on Monday regarding allegations that a former county employee was committing crimes while he was at work. Monti Richison is on the agenda to speak to the commissioners but it has not been said who the former employee is.

Poteau Wrestling Club members win titles, place in own tournament; Talihina Wrestling Club athlete crowned champion

Several Poteau Youth Wrestling Club members either won or placed in their respective divisions at Saturday's Poteau Tournament at Sherman Floyd Fieldhouse.
In fact, one weight class was a clean sweep for Poteau as at 100 pounds in Division IV, Ross Johnson was the champion, Rae Hendrix was runner-up, Hannah Million was third and Timothy Rankins was fourth.

University of the Ozarks JV shock Carl Albert Vikings

CLARKSVILLE, Ark. — Two 3-point baskets by the University of the Ozarks junior varsity gave the home team an eight-point lead with 1:28 remaining in the game, which proved to be the difference in a 78-75 win over the Carl Albert State College Vikings Wednesday night.
The Vikings will open conference play at 8 p.m. Monday against Western Oklahoma State College at Mick Thompson Fieldhouse. The game will follow the Lady Vikings' conference opener at 6 p.m. against the Lady Pioneers.

Cameron Special Olympics Team wins hoop event in Catoosa

CATOOSA — The Cameron Special Olympics Basketball Team won the Area Basketball Games event on Saturday by beating Jenks twice.
The coaches were very proud of the team, and the athletes played with a lot of heart — and left all their fans happy.
The Yellowjackets will compete in the State Basketball Games Jan. 14, 2012, in Norman with the hopes of bringing home the first-ever gold medal to LeFlore County.
The day before, Jan. 13, 2012, the ’Jackets will compete in the State Singles Bowling Competition, also in Norman.
