CATOOSA â€” A coaching role at the All-State Golf Tournament was a once in a lifetime deal for Poteau boys golf coach Mike Thomas.
Coaches are only allowed to coach one sport one time at the annual event.
So Thomas, who coached both the East boys and the girls, made the best of memories Monday checking up on golfers throughout Monday's All-State Golf Tournament at Cherokee Hills Golf Course.
There will be a Poteau softball parents meeting at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the high school softball field.
Right afterward, the Poteau Softball Dugout Club will meet.
The Lady Pirates' first practice will be at 8 p.m. Thursday, and players will need to bring their physicals forms and other necessary paperwork at that time.

Poteau High School students who will participate in extra-curricular activities this upcoming school year will have their drug testing take place next month inside the senior hall of the high school.
Panama city workers replace a stop sign destroyed by a pickup Tuesday afternoon. The pickup also caused a power outage when it sheered off a utility pole at the intersection of Rock Jail Road and U.S. highway 59. No one was injured in the one vehicle accident. Panama Chief of Police John Whiteaker said about 100 homes were without power. OG&E were on the scene trying restore electricity before police were completed with their accident investigation, said Whiteaker.

Larry Byrd, 65, of Panama died Friday, July 26, 2013, in Heavener.Â
He was born Nov. 18, 1947 at Williams to Lenza William and Elsie (Pendergrass) Byrd. He was a cook.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Rose Byrd; daughter, Sherri Leeann Byrd; two brothers, Bobby and Hayden Byrd; and sister, Norma Wilkinson.
V. Faye Byrd peacefully left Shawnee, Kan., to meet her friend, Jesus, face to face on Saturday, July 27, 2013.
Faye was born on April 27, 1926, in Bokoshe â€” the ninth of 13 children.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years (minus one day), Ray E. Byrd; two children, Jerry Byrd and Connie Perrigo; and two grandchildren, Cynthia French and Jamison Byrd.
She is survived by her daughters, P. Elaine Saner (Jim) of Shawnee; Rosemary Bengtson (Paul) of Lawrenceville, Ga.; Karen Byrd of Butler, Mo.; and C. Dian French of Poteau.

The blue bridge in Wister soon may be history after the Oklahoma Department of Transportation completed an alignment study.
According to ODOT, the consideration to make improvements at the Caston Creek crossing on U.S. Highway 270 about one mile south of the U.S. Highway 271 junction was a culmination of public meeting participation, federal and state agency input and a completed alignment study.
During a public meeting held in Wister on June 26, 2012, four alternative alignments were presented based on the results of a previous alignment study.
