Thursday's High School Boys Basketball Roundup

PANAMA — The Pocola Indians lost their high school football game to the archrival Panama Razorbacks this past season. So, they got a little revenge for that Thursday night as they handled the Razorbacks 75-50 at the Panama Gym.
Spiro 65, Heavener 45: In Spiro, the Bulldogs (1-0) led 17-15 after one period and 28-25 at halftime, but they took control in the third quarter with a 20-7 period to take a 48-32 advantage into the final period.
Leflore 84, McCurtain 65: In McCurtain, the win improved the Savages to 6-1 on the season.

SPIRO — The Spiro Lady Bulldogs began their 2011-12 season in fine fashion with a 52-37 victory over the Heavener Lady Wolves Thursday night at the Spiro Gym.
Pocola 48, Panama 46: In Panama, the Lady Indians (1-1) got their first win of the season as well as for new Coach Carrie Covey, but they had to do it the hard way.
Bokoshe 36, Keota 34: In Bokoshe, the Lady Lions jumped out to a 15-4 lead after one period, but the Lady Tigers (4-0) outscored them 20-2 in the second quarter to take a 24-17 halftime lead.

The Oklahoma State University 2011 Christmas Baseball Camps will be this month at Allie P. Reynolds Stadium in Stillwater.
The 2011 Cowboy Youth Christmas Camp Sessions for those who are in grades two through eight will be 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. next Saturday for the first session, and the same time for the second session on Dec. 11.
Registration will begin at 9 a.m. both days. The camp cost is $200.
The 2011 Cowboy High School Christmas Hitting Camp will be 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Dec. 17, while the Christmas Pitching Camp will be from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Dec. 18.

Rider of OSU's 'Bullet' has ties to LeFlore County

Most of all the folks who read my stories know I'm Oklahoma Sooner born and bred. When I die, I'll be Sooner dead!
But I met the most interesting person Wednesday. Her name is Jennifer Cunningham, and she is a drug representative for Lilly's, whose main prescription drugs are Cymbalta, Cialis and Axiron.
Jennifer came into my lab, and noticed all the OU memorabilia on the wall, and we started up a conversation.

Goldie Lucille Hicks

Goldie Lucille Hicks, 93, of Wister died Thursday, Dec. 1, 2011 in Fort Smith, Ark. Goldie was born Sept. 20, 1918, in Hollis to Benjamin and Leatha (Burgess) Jones. She was a homemaker. Goldie was a member of the Bethel Baptist Church in Wister for many years. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband of 29 years, Lige Jay Hicks; great-granddaughter, Autumn Meeks; one brother and four sisters.
 Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Wanda and Don Meeks of Wister; grandson and fiancé, Donald and Glenda Meeks of Wister; and niece, Leatha Helmer of Wagoner.

Jo Ann (Best) Allinder, 82, of Blue Springs, Mo., died Nov. 30, 2011, in Clay Center, Kan. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 20, at Royer-Hays Funeral Home, Blue Springs. Funeral Services will be 10 a.m. at The Episcopal Church of the Resurrection in Blue Springs with burial in Mt. Washington Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the church.

During a round table discussion with civic leaders today, Poteau mayor Jeff Shockley announced that the new Poteau Library would be named the Patrick Lynch Memorial Library, named in honor of Poteau resident Patrick Lynch and following a donation from the Lynch family in excess of over $250,000.

Muldrow boys knock Poteau freshmen out of own tournament; Heavener girls get past Wister to reach consolation championship

The Poteau Pirates freshmen basketball team fought and scraped for three quarters only to see the much larger Muldrow Bulldogs power through the fourth quarter and defeat the Pirates by the score of 36-27 in the consolation semifinals of the Poteau Freshmen Tournament at Sherman Floyd Fieldhouse.
The Bulldogs will face Sallisaw in Saturday's consolation championship at noon Saturday. The Black Diamonds defeated the Stigler Panthers 44-23 in Wednesday's final boys consolation semifinal.

VAN BUREN, Ark. — The Poteau Pirates basketball team suffered its second straight loss to begin the season Wednesday night as the Pirates lost 57-36 to Morrilton, Ark., in the consolation semifinals of the Citizens Bank Classic.
The Pirates (0-2) will play Farmington, Ark., which lost 57-37 to Greenwood, Ark., in the other consolation semifinal, at 11:30 a.m. Saturday for seventh place.
The Poteau Lady Pirates (0-1), who got a bye into Saturday's consolation championship, will meet Springdale, Ark., which defeated Gentry, Ark., 59-40 on Wednesday, at 1 p.m. right after the Pirates play.
