Dan Harrell Pilkington, 63, of Jay,Â formerly of Poteau, died Saturday, July 14, 2012, in Grove. Dan was born July 8, 1949, in Poteau to Fred Harrell and Freda (Evans) Pilkington. Dan was the former owner of APGO Drilling and Production Service. He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred Pilkington and Freda Watkins; son, Shon Pilkington; and sister, Jan Pilkington Graham.
Mary Ola Bloxom Holland, 68, of Panama, formerly of Mena, Ark., died Friday, July 6, 2012, in Panama.
Mary was born Feb. 25, 1944, in Virginia to Rufus and Ola (Higdon) Bloxom.Â She was preceded in death by her parents and one great-grandson, Ayden Blake.
She loved raising flowers, fishing and painting artwork.
She is survived by her companion, Clyde Johnson of the home; one daughter, Margaret Marshall of Fort Smith, Ark.; fourÂ grandchildren, Jennifer Ward, Joshua Peters, Ericka and Tiffany Marshall; four great-grandchildren, Anthony, Brian, Ivy and Alex.
LeFlore County Emergency Medical Services and employees were honored during the annual Oklahoma Emergency Medical Technician Association banquet.
Anthony Stankowitz, 21, of Spiro, heard his name out called out during an awards ceremony last week in Tulsa as the 2012 Paramedic of the year. The award, which is peer based by nomination, recognized Stankowitz as the top outstanding Paramedic in Oklahoma.

Paul Claybourne Cunningham, 60, of Pocola died Friday, July 13, 2012, in Pocola.Â Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Monday, July 16, at Pocola Memorial Chapel under the direction of Evans and Miller Funeral Home, Pocola.
Doyle Kenneth â€śKenâ€ť Moore, 74, of Sallisaw died Thursday, July 12, 2012, in Fort Smith, Ark. Ken was born April 17, 1938, in Spiro to Andrew Cleveland and Nancy (Smith) Moore. He was an upholstery instructor at Northside High School in Fort Smith. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy.
Hollis Leslie Gassaway Jr., 67, ofÂ Fort Smith, Ark., died Thursday, July 5, 2012, in Fort Smith.Â Hollis was born April 12, 1945, in McAlester to Hollis Sr. and Novella (Phipps) Gassaway. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy. Hollis was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Shirley Besoyan.
Survivors include his daughter, Phyllis Ann Gassaway of California; sons, Douglas and Virginia Gassaway of Blum, Texas, Treavor Gassaway of Roland; uncles and aunts, Lucian and Sue Gassaway of Monroe, and Clinton and Barbara Phipps Gassaway.
Private services will be held at a later time.
Poteau Lady Pirate basketball player Kaitlan Standridge went to participate in the United States Junior National Basketball Team tryouts on May 20 at Lighthouse Sports Complex in Oklahoma City. The goal was to make the cut from across the nation to be invited to play in next week's U.S. International Sports Festival in Columbus, Ohio. She did just that.
â€śI really didn't think this would happen,â€ť Standridge said. â€śI have never really foreseen myself coming this far in basketball. I've developed a love for the game of basketball like I have over the past two years.â€ť
CUSHING â€” The good news is there will be a LeFlore County OK Kids peewee baseball team playing for a state title tonight. However, there won't be a second local team in the championship game, this year anyway.
The Poteau Buccaneers stayed perfect for the 2012 OK Kids PeeWee State Tournament with a 15-3 rout of the Coleman BRW Thursday night in the winner's-bracket final.
The Buccaneers will play at 6 p.m. tonight for the state title, but they won't get to play their fellow Poteau team for it.
WEATHERFORD â€” All that stands between the Heavener Thunder OK Kids coach-pitch baseball team and the 2012 State Tournament trophy is a win.
The Thunder reached tonight's state title game with a 13-3, four-inning, run-rule victory over Morrison in Thursday night's winner's-bracket final at Rader Park.
The Thunder will play at 6 p.m. tonight for the state title. The Sallisaw Titans and the Hollis Heat played in the loser's-bracket semifinal Friday night, with the winner meeting Morrison in the loser's-bracket final â€” with that winner playing the Thunder tonight for the state title.
