For those who remember actress Beatrice Arthur's “All in the Family” spin-off of the 1970s, “Maude,” remember the theme song — which its lyrics say, “Then there's Maude.”
The Arkoma Mustangs football team might be singing a similar song this week, with the lyrics saying, “Then there's Maud” — as in the Maud Tigers.
The Mustangs will pay a visit to the Tigers for a crucial District C-4 contest at 7:30 p.m. Friday in Maud.
The Poteau Bandit Football League teams were 3-1 in their home games with Muldrow on Saturday at Costner Stadium.
The Poteau sixth-graders posted a 42-28 victory over the Bulldogs, the Poteau fifth-grade Bandit League team won its game 36-0 over Muldrow and the Poteau fourth-graders won 38-0.
The only setback came in the third-grade game as Muldrow edged Poteau 13-12 in overtime.
October 4th
Just think, a couple of weeks ago, there were 12 LeFlore County fast-pitch softball teams and all five fall baseball teams still playing. Now, we're down to three.
The Panama Lady Razorbacks (Class 2A) and Wister Wildcats (Class A) are at their respective state tournaments, while the Poteau Lady Pirates will finally play some postseason games this week as they were named a Class 4A Regional Tournament host team.

NORMAN — Saturday night's game at Owen Field against the Ball State Cardinals could have been a scary game. For starters, the Cardinals entered with only one loss, and beat Big 10 opponent Indiana (coached by former Oklahoma Sooner Assistant Coach Kevin Wilson) — and not to mention it was the last game before the annual Red River Shootout, which will be at 11 a.m. this Saturday at the Cotton Bowl in Dallas.
STILLWATER — The Poteau and Heavener high school cross country runners participated in the 75th annual Oklahoma State Jamboree Saturday morning.
In the Class 4A-5A girls division, the Poteau Lady Pirates were 15th with 405 points.
Deven Bond led the way for the Lady Pirates as she was 46th (13:12.95), followed by Sheridan Hoyer in 51st (13:20.72), Colleen Peterson in 104th (14:22.57), Tabitha Waldrop in 131st (15:15.66), Samantha Galetka in 135th (15:24.11), Shandee Staton in 147th (16:05.89) and Katie Piquet in 153rd (16:34.18).
RED OAK — The Whitesboro Bulldogs baseball team was hoping to make it two straight fall seasons in which it ended the season at the Class B State Tournament. Unfortunately, it didn't happen for them this fall.
The Bulldogs lost their Class B Regional Tournament opener 17-0 to the host Red Oak Eagles Thursday afternoon, then lost an elimination game to the Stuart Hornets Friday afternoon.
The Bulldogs end the season at 13-15.
October 3rd
James A. Lewallen, 67, of Poteau died Wednesday,
Sept. 28, 2011, in Poteau. James was born in Zoe on Jan.
21, 1944, to Marion J. and Lucinda J. (Dunn) Lewallen.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 4, at the
Oakland Cemetery Pavilion with the Rev. Jim Cook officiating.
Burial will follow. Arrangements are under the
direction of Evans and Miller Funeral Home, Poteau.
Charles L. Anderson, 77, of Poteau died Wednesday,
Sept. 28, 2011, in Fort Smith, Ark. Charles was born Aug.
11, 1934, to Charles “Woody” Anderson.
Services will be at 2 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 6, at Evans
Chapel of Memories with the Rev. Jim Cook officiating.
Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery. Evans and Miller
Funeral Home, Poteau, is handling arrangements.
Theses second grade boys from Poteau Primary School who attend the Boys and
Girls Club of LeFlore County after-school program, are enjoying some time on the
computer. The BGCLC after-school program, is a non-profit organization that

A lawsuit was filed in
the LeFlore County Court
Clerk's Office Wednesday
naming the county as a
defendant after a woman
was injured in an automobile
accident.
According to the petition
filed by Attorney
Gary Buckles on behalf of
his client, Krista
McCurtain, she claims that
LeFlore County and
Bradley Lewis, 20, of
Duncan,Okla., were both
negligent in their actions
which caused her injury.
On December 11,
McCurtain was a passenger
in a 1999 Pontiac four
door driven by Lewis. At
approximately 4 a.m. they
were traveling down Green
Hill Road, two miles east
