Poteau Bandit League teams take three of four games from Van Buren (Ark.) Black

VAN BUREN, Ark. — The Poteau Bandit Football League teams went 3-1 against Van Buren Black last Saturday.
The sixth-grade (30-22), fifth-grade (24-14) and fourth-grade teams (26-14) all posted wins over Van Buren Black, but the third-graders lost 26-12.
The Poteau teams will return to action next Saturday with road games against Greenwood (Ark.) White, with games beginning at 10 a.m. with the third-grade game first followed by the fourth-grade contest, the fifth-grade game and the sixth-grade contest.

Poteau runners participate in Chile Pepper Invitational

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — The Poteau High School cross-country runners participated in their regular-season finale meet Saturday as they ran in the Chile Pepper/University of Arkansas Invitational.
The Lady Pirates had seven of the 410 total runners in the field in the varsity girls' race. Deven Bond had led the way as she was 175th with a time of 21:53. Colleen Peterson was 271st (23:21), Sheridan Hoyer was 275th (23:25), Tabitha Waldrop was 353rd (25:35), Shandee Staton was 362nd (26:06), Sonja Guerrero was 383rd (27:20) and Haley Clark was 395th (28:26).

Arkoma Mustangs get shot at district-leading Thackerville Wildcats at home Thursday night

The Arkoma Mustangs will get a shot at District C-4's top football team when they entertain the Thackerville Wildcats at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Mustang Field.
The Mustangs (3-4 overall, 2-3 in district play) are on a two-game winning streak. Two weeks ago, they celebrated homecoming with a 44-36 dramatic win over Midway, then routed Eagle Point Academy 46-16 Friday night in Tulsa.

Talihina looks to begin final push in District A-6 with home football game Thursday night against Haileyville

If the Talihina Golden Tigers football team's season was a television series, the climax is about to begin.
The Golden Tigers (7-0 overall, 3-0 in District A-6) will begin the stretch drive toward what they hope is a district title when they entertain the Haileyville Warriors (0-6, 0-3) at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Doc Robinson Stadium.
“We're in the driver's seat,” said Kelly Gravitt, Talihina's coach. “All we have to to is win and take care of business, and we're district champs.”

Panama football team seeks three-game winning streak Thursday night at Hugo

The closing line of the opening to the epic television series “Star Trek” says, “... to boldly go where no man has gone before.” That can also be used to describe the Panama Razorbacks football team right now.
The Hogs won their second straight game last week with a 34-6 home win over the Quinton Savages Friday night at George Ollie Stadium.
“It's the best I've seen us play in the two years I've been here,” said Brandon Ellis, Panama's coach. “Everything clicked. The biggest improvement I saw last week was our offensive line in the way we hooked up with our blocks.”

Robert “Stan” Werline

Robert “Stan” Werline, 57, of Poteau died October 6, 2012, after a yearlong battle with cancer.
Stan was born Aug. 23, 1955, in Texas. He lived over 45 years in southern California and was a licensed contractor holding licenses in four trade specialties He lived by the mantra of “Stand Strong” and maintained an abiding faith and trust in God.

Alvie Alfred McClain went to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday, Oct. 15, 2012, while at the Talihina Veterans Center.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, one son and three sisters.

Raymond Edward Glenn

Raymond Edward Glenn, 70, of Howe, died Monday, Oct. 15, 2012, in Howe Raymond was born Jan. 12, 1942 in Wister to Lawrence Edward and Amaytha (Hall) Glenn.
He was a lifelong cattle rancher and quarter horse breeder He always loved telling stories about his life experiences. Raymond was preceded in death by his parents, several aunts and uncles and one brother-in-law, Charles Lenard

Sarah Carman Duncan

Sarah Carman Duncan, 45, of Talihina died Monday, Oct. 15, 2012, in Fort Smith, Ark. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 18, at Talihina First United Methodist Church. Cremation was arranged by Talihina Funeral Home.

Former Lady Viking new assistant CASC women's basketball coach

Jeff Tadtman, Carl Albert State College women's basketball coach, would like to announce Rikki Wolfe as the new women's assistant coach.
In 2006-07 her senior year at Schulter High School, Rikki averaged 22.3 points per game, which ranked third in the state. Wolfe played her freshman season of junior college basketball at Eastern Oklahoma State College in Wilburton. Then she transferred and played her sophomore season for CASC.
