Bokoshe Tigers seek first 2012 football win Friday night in road game against Midway

September 26, 2012

BOKOSHE — The Bokoshe Tigers football team originally was slated to have had an off date last week. Instead, since both the Tigers and the Webbers Falls Warriors were open, they decided to meet last Friday night in Bokoshe.
With the fact that the Tigers are an injury-filled squad, the open date would have been welcomed. Instead, the visiting Warriors defeated the Tigers 69-0 in a game stopped at halftime by the mercy rule.
With the Tigers (0-4, 0-3 in District C-4) so injured, the week off may not have been as beneficial as hoped.

Panama hits road for Friday night football at Hartshorne

September 26, 2012

The Panama Razorbacks are still trying to seek that elusive first football win of the season. They had a shot at that last week for homecoming at George Ollie Stadium against the Wilburton Diggers. Due to falling behind early, it made the Hogs play catch-up football all night.
“Defensively, we stepped up in the second half,” said Brandon Ellis, Panama's second-year coach. “We just fell too far behind and tried to play catch up the whole games. Offensively, the low point was we had five turnovers, and that just killed our drives.”

Poteau Pirates making strides despite loss to Sallisaw Friday night

September 25, 2012

Well, the Poteau Pirates played with Class 4A's sixth-ranked Sallisaw Black Diamonds in Friday night's District 4A-4 opener at Costner Stadium, and were in contention until the final quarter. It seemed like the Black Diamonds came out in the third quarter and made major corrections on the offensive side of the ball. Ben Oberste, the future Tulsa Golden Hurricane, has been highly visible in sports in eastern Oklahoma for the past three years. But without question, he was a lot more dominating with his legs than with his arm. Poteau had no answer for the QB read option.
