Keys (Park Hill) too much for Spiro in playoff opener

PARK HILL — The season came to a crushing defeat for the Spiro Bulldogs as they lost 42-7 to the Keys (Park Hill) Cougars Friday night in an opening-round game in the Class 3A playoffs.
The loss ended Spiro's season at 6-5. No more information on the game was reported.

Carl Albert women suffer loss to Mineral Area team

Despite getting 14 points from Myeisha Williams and 13 points from Ashala Watson, it wasn't enough for the Carl Albert State College Lady Vikings in their 74-57 loss Friday night to the homestanding Mineral Area College in the opener of the Mineral Area Classic in Park Hills, Mo.
The Lady Vikings will return to action today at 2 this afternoon against Vincennes University in the second and final game of the Mineral Area Classic.

Thunder win for second straight night, down Pistons after getting road win Thursday night at Chicago

OKLAHOMA CITY — Kevin Durant scored 25 points and grabbed 13 rebounds and Serge Ibaka added 25 points to lead the Oklahoma City Thunder to its third victory in a row and a 4-2 record to start the season. Detroit kept the game close for about three quarters, but OKC finally pushed ahead late and cruised for the easy 105-94 victory Friday night at Chesapeake Energy Arena.
The Thunder extended its 49-42 lead at halftime with a 12-5 run to begin the second half to take a 61-47 lead at the 7:41 mark.

Inspection completed at Heavener skate park

The Oklahoma Department of Tourism and Recreation has performed the required pre-construction inspection for the Heavener skate park and splash pad project.
It is being partially funded through a Land and Water Conservation grant. Eve Atkinson and Susan Henry of tourism department met with Heavener City Manager Mike Kennerson and Nashoba Youth Foundation Director Lisa Fabian to perform the inspection and checklist.
The completion of the checklist places the city one step closer to starting construction, which can begin as soon as the National Park Service provides its approval.

Whitesboro basketball teams sweep home openers from Leflore

WHITESBORO — The Whitesboro High School basketball teams were trying to get their first victories of the new basketball season Thursday night at the Whitesboro Gym. They were successful.
The Bulldogs ended the sweep of the Leflore High School teams with a 61-43 win over the Savages.
The Lady Bulldogs began the night with a 51-14 victory over the Lady Savages.

Talihina seniors glad to be back into postseason play; Golden Tigers will entertain Wewoka to begin Class A playoffs tonight

TALIHINA — Two seasons ago, the Talihina Golden Tigers were one of the favorites to win the Class 2A state title on the gridiron, but that playoff run was abruptly halted by a heartbreaking loss to Colcord in the second round of the playoffs at Doc Robinson Stadium.
Last year, a five-game losing streak to end the season kept the Golden Tigers from being a playoff team.
Now, after a drop back into Class A and opening the season 8-0, the Golden Tigers find themselves back into the postseason parade.

PANAMA — When they were freshmen, sophomores and juniors, success was hard to come by for two Panama Razorback football players — quarterback Trevor Bourne and running back/defensive lineman Jacob Vick. During their sophomore season in 2010, the Hogs went 0-10. Finally, Panama's 17-game losing streak was snapped in a Week 8 victory over archrival Pocola in 2011.
