Terry Lamont Biggerstaff

Terry Lamont Biggerstaff, 61, of Blue Ball, Ark., went to be with his Lord and Savior Friday, Sept. 14, 2012, at his home surrounded by his loving family.
Terry was born March 4, 1951, in Fort Smith, Ark., to Homer Romane and Wilma (Grantham) Biggerstaff. Terry was a member of the Tatetown Community Church.
He was a U.S. Marine veteran. His hobbies included deer hunting, fishing and gardening. Terry could make plants grow on rocks. But, above all Terry loved his family, most of all his grandchildren.

Dennis Dana Gregory

Dennis Dana Gregory died Monday, Sept. 10, 2012. He was a disabled Vietnam veteran, serving two tours with the U.S. Air Force in Pleiku, Vietnam, as an air passenger service specialist. He distinguished himself as airman of the month among other citations. He traveled extensively in Asia and Europe. He was a graduate of the University of Oklahoma. Residing in Manhattan Beach, Calif., he retired to Heavener in 1988 after many years as customs house manager of ocean imports at the ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach.

Wilma “Faye” Humphries

Wilma “Faye” Humphries, 80, of Poteau stepped into the light Friday, Sept. 14, 2012, in Fort Smith, Ark.
Faye was born July 9, 1932, in Howe to William V. and Sarah Lula (Dodd) Ritter. She began her education at the No. 10 Community school, now rebuilt into the home of  her sister, Jeanne Hill, and family.   On July 23, 1955, she married Everett Ray Humphries. She became a homemaker raising three children.

UPDATE: Pocola Police officer injured in wreck

September 16, 2012

Officer John Limbocker is in stable condition after a wreck in his Pocola police car last night left him trapped inside the vehicle. Members of the Pocola Police Department helped to free him before he ws transported to Sparks hospital. Limbocker was later awake and coherent. He is stable and resting this morning.

A Pocola Police officer was seriously injured in a car wreck approximately an hour ago on Fuller Street in Pocola.

Poteau wins football home opener over Tulsa Webster

“There were times in this game that everyone was pulling they weight, but sometimes we were pulling in different directions,” said Greg Werner, Poteau's new coach, after the Pirates pulled out a 21-0 home-opening victory the Tulsa Webster Warriors Friday night at Costner Stadium. “The Poteau Pirates are a band of brothers and we need to pick each other up when there is a misplay. We had way too many turnovers to be competative next week. Sallisaw is a very good team. We must have a great week of work if we expect to compete.”

Pocola Indians fall in first home football game of season

POCOLA — After two road games to open the 2012 football season, the Pocola Indians were hoping to get a home win for the first time this year. The Quinton Savages had other ideas.
The visiting Savages came to John Carter Field on Friday night and left with a 30-14 win over the Indians.

Bokoshe Tigers suffer shutout in district football game at Sasakwa

SASAKWA — The Bokoshe Tigers had two rough home games to begin the season, and they were hoping their luck would change on a visiting football field. Unfortunately for the Tigers, it didn't.
The homestanding Sasakwa Vikings mercy ruled the Tigers 46-0 Friday night.

Panama loses road football game to Warner

WARNER — The Panama Razorbacks football team gave it its all to try to get a road win, but it just wasn't in the cards as they lost 36-6 to the homestanding Warner Eagles Friday night.
