A career-high 21 points from Myeisha Williams wasn't enough for the Carl Albert State College Lady Vikings in their 72-64 loss to the Northern Oklahoma College-Tonkawa Lady Mavericks in the first game of Tuesday night's doubleheader at Mick Thompson Fieldhouse.
A strong 40-18 second half proved to be the difference for the 12th-ranked NOC-Tonkawa Mavericks in their 68-38 win over the Carl Albert State College Vikings in the second game.
The buggy drawing that took place a couple of weeks ago at Wister was a huge success. I did not get my hands on all the winners' names, but I do know that Brad McMillin won a gun from J.R.â€™s Pawn and Gun.
We also gave away a couple of guns provided by Wister Pawn and Gun and Poteau Pawn and Gun. I really appreciate all the people who made this possible for all the kids at Wister who will be helped by this fundraiser.

Carl â€˜Budâ€™Â TreatÂ
Bud Treat, 88, of Sallisaw died Tuesday, Feb. 26, 2013, in Sallisaw. He was born June 17, 1924, at Kanima, to David T. and Annie Bell (Young) Treat. He was a rancher.Â Â
He was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers, Clayton, Clyde, Calvin, Clarence and Claude; and three sisters, Agnes Puckett, Bonnie Hanna and Betty Chitwood.Â
Marie Yazzie, 87 of Keota died Monday, Feb. 25, 2013, in Spiro. Services will be held at noon Monday, March 4, at the San Ildefonso Catholic Church, San Ildefonso, N.M. Burial will be at 2:15 p.m. at the National Cemetery, Santa Fe, N.M. Services are under the direction of Grace Manor Funeral Home of Poteau.
Thursday's Carl Albert State College home softball doubleheader against Northeastern Oklahoma A&M has been canceled. No make-up date has been scheduled.
The Lady Vikings' next games are scheduled to be a road twinbill against Western Oklahoma State College beginning at 2 p.m. Saturday in Altus.
Last weekend was a rough one on LeFlore County high school basketball teams. When we woke up Thursday morning, there were 15 teams left. However, now weâ€™re down to three teams â€” the Talihina teams and the Spiro Bulldogs.
Only the Golden Tigers are still on the winnerâ€™s-bracket side. They will play for the Class 2A Area Tournament title, and a trip to state, Friday night in Wilburton against Preston â€” which was the team they beat in both the area finals and state finals in 2011 when they won the Class 2A State Tournament.
Several students at the Poteau Spirit Center got the good news this month that they were named Stars of the Month.
Three PSC cheerleaders who were so honored were Makaylee Wilson, Graicey Dorsey and Emily Rodriguez.
Eight PSC gymnasts were named Stars of the Month â€” Billie McNatt, Lucky Athey, Samantha Osterhout, Abbey Long, Piper Akins, Madelyn Long and Kaylee Hogrefe.
TYLER, Texas â€” The Carl Albert State College baseball team went 1-2 on its weekend road series against Tyler Junior College.
The Vikings won the opener 7-3 on Friday night, but dropped both games of Saturdayâ€™s doubleheader 3-2 and 4-1.
The Vikings will entertain the University of the Ozarks junior varsity for a doubleheader beginning at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday at Ival Goodman Field.
