San Bois CASA, which serves the counties of LeFlore, Latimer and Haskell, have invited the public to the Sixth Annual Cajun Celebration of "FAT Tuesday", Feb. 21, 2012 from 6 until 8 p.m. at the VFW Building at 108 W. Ada Street in Wilburton Okla.
The event will be hosted by San Bois CASA volunteers, staff and board members and will have a sampling of great Cajun food including gumbo, jambalaya, beans and rice, shrimp salad, and Hoppin' John.
CASA is a non-profit organization that trains community volunteers to advocate for the best interest of our children in need.
Tuesday night was Senior Night at Sherman Floyd Fieldhouse for the Poteau High School basketball teams, but even that could not help them knock off the visiting Muldrow Lady Bulldogs and Bulldogs.
The Muldrow girls took a 56-42 victory over the Lady Pirates in the opener, while the â€™Dogs got past the Pirates 44-35.
HEAVENER â€” The Heavener Wolves avenged their December loss to the Pocola Indians Tuesday night at the Heavener Gym, and did so in a big way.
Thanks to a strong second period, the Wolves ended up handing the Indians a 61-42 loss.
The Wolves (9-11), winners of two straight in as many nights, jumped out to an 11-2 lead after one period.
The Indians (15-4) cut the deficit to 13-11 in the early stages of the second quarter, but Heavener outscored Pocola 17-2 the rest of the period to take a 30-13 lead into the locker rooms at halftime.
HEAVENER â€” In December, the Heavener Lady Wolves had to rally late to earn a come-from-behind win over the Pocola Lady Indians at the Pocola Gym. There was no comeback needed for them Tuesday night at the Heavener Gym as the Lady Wolves pretty much led start to finish in a 55-32 victory over the Lady Indians.
The Lady Wolves doubled up the Lady Indians in the opening period by a count of 8-4 en route to an 18-11 halftime lead.
But in the third quarter, Heavener put distance between itself and Pocola with a 17-7 period to take a 35-18 lead into the final quarter.
PARIS, Texas â€” The Carl Albert State College Lady Vikings softball team had a rough beginning to the 2012 season Tuesday afternoon as they lost a pair of games to Paris, Texas, by scores of 4-3 and 10-2.
The Lady Vikings will return to action in their home-opening doubleheader at 2 p.m. next Thursday before having their two-day Carl Albert Festival Feb. 18-19 at the Poteau Area Recreational Complex.
Nominations are currently being accepted for the 2012 Poteau High School Sports Hall of Fame. Categories include: football, boys and girls basketball, baseball, fast-pitch and slow-pitch softball, boys and girls soccer, boys and girls track, boys and girls golf, boys and girls cross country, boys and girls all-around athlete, wrestling, coaching and support and service. TULSA â€” Several Poteau Youth Wrestling Club members competed and placed in the 2012 Novice State Tournament last weekend.
Two members came home with second-place finishes â€” Dauntay Warren and Parker Rosenburg.
Coming in third were Caden Warren and Rae Hendrix, while Dada Jones and Dakota James were fourth.
Gavin Morgan, Ethan Carey, Grant Ford and Connor Williams were fifth, while Parker Killion was sixth.
The National Wild Turkey Federation LeFlore County Longbeard Banquet will be March 8 at the Bob Lee Kidd Civic Center. The doors will open at 5:30 p.m.

Though Oklahoma's popular archery hunting seasons for species like deer, black bear and antelope are done for the 2011-12 season, some might say the state is still in the thick of archery season â€” at least if you are involved with the Oklahoma National Archery in the Schools Program.
