HEAVENER â€” The Arkoma Mustangs freshmen boys, who comprise all the high school's track athletes, won the Heavener Junior High Invitational track meet Thursday at Harvey Stadium.
Dakotah Roam won five gold medals, four individually for winning the 100-meter and 200-meter dashes as well as the 110-meter and 300-meter hurdles. Roam, Talon Woolsey, Nathan Willis and Ethann Gates won the 400-meter relay.
Woolsey won the 400-meter dash and the long jump, was runner-up in the 1,600-meter run and took third in the 800-meter run.
Willis was second in the 200-meter dash.
The Poteau Chip-In Club will have a golf benefit beginning at 1 p.m. Saturday at Choctaw Country Club.
The entry fee for the three-person scramble is $30 per player.
All proceeds will go to the Poteau High School golf programs to help with travel expenses, indoor training facility and golf outerwear.

Choctaw Country Club is having a membership drive until April 1. Anyone signing up to become a member from now until March 30 will be able to use the country club for free, and play a round of golf for free.
PANAMA â€” The Heavener Wolves traveled to Panama Thursday afternoon for a Leflore County match-up. The road team batted around in the third, fourth and fifth innings,Â taking the run-rule victory by a score of 19-8.
TALIHINA â€” The Stigler Panthers came to town and downed the Talihina Golden Tigers 5-2 on Thursday afternoon.
With the game tied at 2 after three, the Panthers broke the tie with a single run in the fourth inning and two runs in the sixth.
Sallisaw-Central 5, Leflore 1: In Leflore, Caleb Smith's second home run of the season, a solo shot, put the Savages ahead 1-0 in the opening inning.
However, two Leflore errors led to five unearned runs for the Tigers in the third inning.
WHITESBORO â€” The Whitesboro Lady Bulldogs softball team got its second win of the young season Thursday afternoon with a 6-4 win over the Panama Lady Razorbacks.
Trailing 3-0 in the first inning, the Lady Bulldogs scored twice in the first and four runs in the second inning for a 6-3 lead.
Madison Stout's RBI single scored Hannah Goines for the Lady Razorbacks in the seventh inning to cut the deficit to 6-4, but they got no closer.
Wister 6, Cameron 1: In Cameron, the Lady Wildcats had a six-run second inning to put the game away.
When new Poteau football coach Greg Werner arrived, his senior son, Jay, was going to be part of the Pirates' team as a tight end and a deep snapper. However, the gridiron isn't the only place Jay's presence is going to be felt.
Werner excels on the pitching mound as he did on the football field. The Poteau senior pitcher struck out 13 batters and tossed a one-hitter as the Pirates blanked the Roland Rangers 8-0 in a five-inning, run-ruled game Thursday at Town Creek Park.
SMITHVILLE â€” The Wister Wildcats hope to be playing at 4 this afternoon for a championship.
The Wildcats handled the Battiest Panthers 15-4 in the opening round of the Smithville Tournament on Thursday night.
The â€™Cats played Haworth, a 13-2 winner over Whitesboro, Friday in the championship semifinals, with the winner playing for the championship at 4 this afternoon against the winner of Friday night's Smithville-Red Oak game. The losers will play for third place at 2 this afternoon.
The Howe Lions split their two Thursday games, beating Fort Towson 5-4 but losing 11-0 to Red Oak.
CAMERON â€” Cameron starter Alex Humphries sat down four of the first five hitters he faced and the Yellowjackets never looked back scoring a 10-0 run-rule victory on the Panola Bearcats Friday afternoon.
Poteau High School wrestler Tyler Tustin was named as the starting 138-pounder for the East team at the 2013 All State Games this July. Tustin will face Anadarko's BlakeÂ Trescott.
Tustin finished his career 168-8, which put him as the leader in most career wins and pins as well as highest career winning percentage.
Talihina Lady Golden Tiger basketball player Tara Hawkins has been named to the East team for the 2013 Oklahoma Girls Basketabll Coaches Association All-State Games, which will be June 1 in Norman.
Hawkins averaged 11.8 points, 8.3 rebounds, 3.3 assists and 3.3 steals this past season with 62 blocked shots. She scored 319 points, was 73-of-152 (45 percent) from the field, 28-of-91 (31 percent) on 3-point shooting and 89-of-129 (70 percent) in free-throw shooting. She had 224 rebounds, 90 assists and 89 steals.
