Lester Thompson, 83, of Poteau died Saturday, Nov. 17, 2012, in Poteau. Lester was born in Poteau on April 9, 1929, to Bud Andrew and Pernie (Garrett) Thompson. He was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps. Lester was a car salesman. He was married to his beloved wife, Joyce for 57 years, 10 months and 17 days. Lester was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Evelyn Miller, and great-granddaughter, Sheila Fikes.
Marie Ganote, 89, of Talihina died Wednesday, Nov. 14, 2012, at her home.
Mrs. Ganote was born in Keota on Dec. 10, 1922, the daughter of Columbus LeFlore and Edna (Tom) Carter. She married KentÂ Ganote in Wichita, Kan.
Charlie Horsley of Poteau shows off the citation of recognition signed by Sen. Mark Allen, D-Dist. 4 and Brian Bingman, president pro-tem of the Senate recognizing LeFlore County as the only county in Oklahoma where all communities display the Ten Commandments. Horsley said he contacted Allen about the citation after checking with all the communities and finding that the Ten Commandments were displayed somewhere in each community.

Four local high school basketball players, Heavener's Trevor Smith, Spiro's Knifeis Carter and Philicea Mack and Wister's Tyler Gibson, have been named as four of the top 100 high school players to watch in the Vype Oklahoma Basketball Preview magazine, which will be out on newsstands at the end of this month including all Tote-A-Poke convenience stores in LeFlore County.
That's quite an honor to be put in such a select group of athletes from state of Oklahoma. Congratulations to all four of you for your honor.

STILLWATER â€” As any team approaches a big game, it wants to be playing well. It would appear as if the Oklahoma State Cowboys are doing just that.
After a 44-30 loss to Kansas State on Nov. 3, the Cowboys have eclipsed the 50-point mark in their last two games â€” a 55-34 win over West Virginia on Nov. 10 and Saturday afternoon's 59-21 rout of Texas Tech, both games being played at Boone Pickens Stadium.
TULSA â€” An epic western movie is entitled, â€śHow the West Was Won.â€ť There was a football game Saturday at Skelly Field at H.A. Chapman Stadium that could have also been described with that title.
Keyarris Garrett caught three touchdowns receptions to lift Tulsa to a 23-21 victory over Central Florida Saturday in a battle of Conference USA division leaders, and a likely preview of the league championship game.
Loretta â€śRitaâ€ť Shaw, 62, of Spiro died Sunday, Nov. 11, 2012. Services will be held at noon Saturday, Nov. 17, at Harvest Hill Assembly of God under the direction of Mallory-Martin Funeral Home.
Billy Don Harper, 57, of Spiro died Friday. Nov. 16, 2012. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Nov. 19, at First Baptist Church under the direction of Mallory-Martin Funeral Home.
