The 2012 Poteau Pirate Red-White Scrimmage will take place at 4 p.m. Friday at Costner Stadium. Admission to the game will be towels.

The Wayne Husak/Memorial Day Tournament will take place Saturday and Sunday at Choctaw Country Club. Entry fee for the two-man tournament is $100. The format will be 18-hole low ball on Saturday and an 18-hole scramble on Sunday.

This is the time of the year when I really love my job. Donâ€™t get me wrong, I canâ€™t think of anything else I would rather be doing for a living (except maybe fishing or hunting), but I do love my summers off.
Now when I say â€śoff,â€ť you must understand that I still coach summer baseball teams and junior high basketball league teams, and take kids to sports camps all through the month of June. With school being out, there is a time in between those things to fish and spend time with my family.
Iva Dell Kennedy, 90, of Talihina, died Monday, May 21, 2012, in Talihina. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, May 24, at the Whitesboro Baptist Church. Burial will be in Whitesboro Cemetery under the direction of Talihina Funeral Home.
Jason Edward Laxson, 31, of Fort Smith, Ark., died Tuesday, May 22, 2012, in Fort Smith.Â Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 26, at Trinity Baptist Church in Pocola under the direction of Evans and Miller Funeral Home, Pocola.
Lucille E. Midgley, 86, of Poteau went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, May 23, 2012, in Poteau.
Lucille was born March 7, 1926 in Stuart to James and Pauline (Carpenter) Casey.Â She was a homemaker.Â Lucille was a member of the Church of God Seventh Day in Wister.Â She was a woman of God.Â Lucille was married to Harrell Midgley on October 4, 1945, in Stockton, Calif.; his devoted wife for 66 years.
She was a licensed back seat driver.Â Lucille was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.Â
HOWE â€” Several All-State honors came the way of three graduating senior Howe High School basketball players.
Brianna Hillebrand and Jared Brown were each named to the 2012 Indian All-State Basketball Teams. They will play in the 2012 Indian All-State Games June 16 at Oklahoma Wesleyan University in Bartlesville. Hillebrand's game will take place at 6 p.m., followed by Brown's game at 7:30 p.m.
OKLAHOMA CITY â€” The Oklahoma City Thunder closed out the Western Conference semi-finals with the Los Angeles Lakers by pushing the Lakers past their breaking point and dominating the game late to win 106-90.
Kobe Bryant scored 42 points, but the Thunder shut down the rest of the team and were content to let him score. Bryant had no assists in the game, and it was apparent early on the he was looking to score at every opportunity.
Russell Westbrook took over in the third to put the Thunder up, and Kevin Durant hit two 3-point baskets early in the fourth to seal the deal.
A Spiro man is behind bars after he allegedly opened fire on an occupied dwelling Monday night.
Daryl Steele Jr., 20, of Spiro, was arrested after LeFlore County deputies found him hiding in the yard after the reported shooting.
