Carl Albert State College womenâs basketball coach Jeff Tadtman has signed four new players to his team â Talihinaâs Tara Hawkins, Eufaulaâs Alyssa Banks, Tulsa Websterâs Chasity Asberry and Shelby Brown of Lincoln Christian School in Tulsa.
Although Oklahoma is finally getting some rain, it does not mean the drought is over. But it does mean pests are still seeking places to lodge, feed and drink. You can discourage those uninvited guests from making themselves at home in your house by making your space downright inhospitable.
The Oklahoma Pardon and Parole Board denied clemency for James L. DeRosa, 36, Friday morning with a 3-2 vote during a special meeting in Oklahoma City.
DeRosa was sentenced to death in the murders of Curtis and Gloria Plummer. âšThe Plummers were found dead inside their home in October 2000, stabbed multiple times and with their throats cuts.
An investigation into the murders hastened along after accomplice Scotty White, now 29, informed a school counselor he knew who murdered the Plummers.
White named Derosa and John Eric Castleberry, now 39.
Since Poteau High School sophomore Skylar Abbott has been on the tennis court for several years, it only seemed natural that he try to do so as an Oklahoma Secondary Schools Activities Association athlete.
For the last two years, Abbott has been fortunate enough to represent the Pirates on the tennis court.
âIâve been playing since I was about 9,â Abbott said. âI figured I should be able to play for my school, and give my school a little more credit in another sport than it already has.â
The 2013 Southeastern Oklahoma Baseball Coaches Association's North team tryouts were rained out Wednesday night at McAlester's Mike Deak Field.
The tryouts have been rescheduled for 7 p.m. next Wednesday at Mike Deak Field.
One of the teams in the tryout game is Poteau's Andy Perdue, who was named the 2013 Southeastern Oklahoma Baseball Coaches Association Coach of the Year. Poteau's Jay Werner is among the tryout players. Poteau's other individual who was selected to play, Blake Johnson, cannot due to an injury.
OKLAHOMA CITY â Basketball is a team game. It is not an individual sport. Five players make up a team. I donât dare blame the OKC Thunderâs early exit from the playoffs on the fact that they lost Russell Westbrook to an injury in the first round against the Houston Rockets. But I will say that with him they stood a much better chance at advancing into the Western Conference Finals and probably even to the NBA Finals. Injuries are a part of every sport, however, and Westbrook just happened to be at the wrong place at the wrong time.
On May 9, my mother, JoAnn Mattox, and I went to my daughter, Joni's, senior program at Union Christian Academy in Fort Smith, Ark.
Afterward, I took my mom to Lin's Garden Chinese Restaurant for her Mother's Day lunch. As we're walking in, two ladies run out of the door, saying, âWe're leaving. Don't go in there, too many kids!â
I turn and look in the parking lot, and there's a Panama Public Schools bus.

Three sports and five teams of the Poteau High School athletic program had their athletes honored Wednesday night at the Poteau High School Sports Banquet at the Bob Lee Kidd Civic Center.
For Poteau Pirates golf coach Mike Thomas, it took nine years, but his Coach of the Year recognition finally came.
Thomas was named the 2013 Region 6 Boys Golf Coach of the Year as he helped guide the Pirates to a sixth-place finish at the Class 4A State Tournament earlier this month. Sophomore Cody Shore was fourth at state individually.
School is officially out, but I am not sure my life is going to slow down much. My boys are both playing summer baseball on two teams, and Koby will play some high school baseball and basketball in the month of June.
Cash is also playing on two summer teams and will be playing in junior high baseball and basketball leagues during June, too.
With all this going on, my boat may not get to see the water much this summer.
Have a great week!
