Third-grade Bandits beat Fort Smith Catholic on Saturday to win Bandit Bowl title

VAN BUREN, Ark. — Last weekend, a third football team brought home a Bandit Bowl title. The third-grade Bi-State Bandit League team avenged its only loss of the season, beating Fort Smith [Ark.] Catholic 12-8 to win the Bandit Bowl title.

Red-White basketball scrimmages set Thursday at Sherman Floyd Fieldhouse

Poteau High School and Pansy Kidd Middle School basketball fans can get a sneak peak of what their teams will be like this season Thursday at Sherman Floyd Fieldhouse.
The Red-White basketball scrimmages will begin at 5:30 p.m., featuring the PKMS seventh- and eighth-grade teams, the Poteau freshmen and the PHS varsity teams.
Admission is $2 or canned food. Any canned goods collected Thursday will be donated to the Poteau Community Thanksgiving Dinner.

Free Open Meeting and Records Seminar in McAlester Nov. 20 — Open to the public

Attorney General Scott Pruitt's office will host a regional seminar on the Oklahoma Open Meeting and Open Records Acts in McAlester on Nov. 20 in the Conference Center auditorium at Eastern Oklahoma State College. Five other regional seminars are being held across the state this fall in partnership with the Oklahoma Press Association and Oklahoma Newspaper Foundation.

This year's meetings feature Tom Bates, First Assistant Attorney General and former chief of the Attorney General's Multicounty Grand Jury Unit.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 12, at Unity Baptist Church Keota. Family visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Tuesday at Mallory-Martin Funeral Home in Keota.

William Frank “Snappy” Enkoff, 96, of Talihina died Saturday, Nov. 8, 2014, in Talihina.
Services will be held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 11, at the Oakland Cemetery Pavilion in Poteau under the direction of Evans and Miller Funeral Home.

Joyce F. Foliart, 68, of Bokoshe died Friday, Nov. 7, 2014, in Fort Smith, Ark.
Joyce was born March 29, 1946, in Bend, Ore., to William and Jessie (Henson) Kirkendoll. She was a homemaker. Joyce attended the Bennington Church.

Charles “Sonny” Farrar

Charles “Sonny” Farrar, 73, of Cameron, died Nov. 8, 2014, in Fayetteville, Ark.
He was born March 7, 1941, in Cameron to Owen and Mary “Mooneyham” Farrar. He was retired from Johnson Controls, Inc. and also worked at Poorboy Livestock Auction. Sonny was preceded in death by his father Owen Farrar.

Poteau junior running back closing in on school record

I have kept statistics for the Poteau Pirates for 25 years now, and I have seen many great backs tote the ball for the Pirates. I've never seen a back as prolific as Roger Barcheers.
Mike Sullivan said David had to average 250 rushing yards per game. If my calculations are right, I would have David Rolle at 5,750 yards unofficially.
