POCOLA â€” The Pocola Indians notched their second win of the season Friday night at John Carter Field, handing the Haileyville Warriors their second loss by a score of 34-10.
GORE â€” The Talihina Golden Tigers had to withstand a late turnover and potential game-winning drive by Gore to pull out an 18-14 victory Friday night.
PANAMA â€” The Roland Rangers would prove to be too much for the Panama Razorbacks Friday night at George Ollie Stadium as they would head to a 32-point victory, 41-9, over the Hogs, who are now 0-2.
COUNCIL HILL â€” The Bokoshe Tigers lost their District C-4 opener to the Midway Chargers by a score of 56-8 Friday night.
MULDROW â€” Former Poteau Assistant Football Coach Rob Johnson missed by a couple of points of getting his first win last week with the Muldrow Bulldogs. He got that first win in Week 2 as his Bulldogs downed the Spiro Bulldogs 32-16 Friday night.
HOWE â€” The run in the Howe Wood Bat Tournament came to an end for the host Lions and the Leflore Savages Friday at Lions Field.
The Lions were run ruled 10-0 by the Smithville Braves, then the Savages suffered an 11-5 loss to the McCurtain Bulldogs.
Smithville and McCurtain played in the consolation championship Friday night.
In Thursday night's opening-round games, the Wister Wildcats blanked the Savages 5-0, while the Cameron Yellowjackets defeated the Braves 9-2.
NORMAN â€” The Poteau Lady Pirates went 3-1 in their first four games over the first two days of the University of Oklahoma Tournament.
On Friday, the Lady Pirates defeated Red Oak 5-3 after losing 11-0 to Purcell.
Poteau won both games Thursday, beating Lawton MacArthur 9-3 and Yukon 7-3.
Pocola 10, Howe 2: In Pocola, after the Lady Lions (10-14) cut the deficit to 4-2 with a two-run sixth inning, the Lady Indians (7-9) put the game into run-rule status with a six-run sixth inning.
The Oklahoma Secondary Schools Activities Association announced the fall 2011 district assignments for fast-pitch softball for Classes 3A down through Class B as well as all fall baseball classes.
In Class 3A softball, both LeFlore County teams, Heavener and Spiro, will be host schools. Eufaula will visit Heavener, while Stigler (which eliminated Heavener in last fall's district tournament in Heavener) will be at Spiro.
All four local teams in Class 2A softball will get to be within the county's borders. Panama will entertain Pocola, while Talihina will visit Wister.
TALIHINA â€” A seventh-inning rally lifted the Heavener Lady Wolves to an 8-4 win over the Talihina Lady Golden Tigers Thursday afternoon.
Wister 14, Pocola 6; Pocola 12, Whitesboro 1; Wister JV 5, Whitesboro 2: In Wister, the Lady Wildcats (13-8), who trailed 2-0 in the opening inning against the Lady Indians (6-9), responded with a five-run first inning for a 5-2 lead â€” which they never relinquished.
ADA â€” The Poteau Lady Pirates cross country team was runner-up at Thursday afternoon's East Central University Meet. The Lady Pirates had 80 points, six points behind team champion Coalgate (74).
Three runners made the top 15. Deven Bond was fourth (14:31.9), Sheridan Hoyer was fifth (14:32.3) and Colleen Peterson was 12th (15:08.5). Samantha Galetka was 42nd (16:54.2), Shandee Staton was 44th (17:07.5), Tabby Waldrop was 46th (17:08.7) and Katie Piquet was 63rd (18:32.3).
