MUSKOGEE — Although it may have been a slow start for the Poteau Lady Pirates after winning their fourth straight LeFlore County Slow-Pitch Tournament Thursday night, they finished strong as they rallied to down the Norman Lady Tigers 4-3 in the Muskogee Festival Friday afternoon.
But in their second game, the Moore Lady Lions were too much for the Lady Pirates, posting a 17-9 victory.
Down 3-1 to Norman, the Lady Pirates scored the last three runs of the game to get the victory.

Baseball, slow-pitch district assignments announced by OSSAA; Lady Pirates heading to Muskogee for Class 6A Regional Tournament

The postseason is just around the corner, and all of the LeFlore County high school baseball and slow-pitch softball teams have now found out their postseason fates by the Oklahoma Secondary School Activities Association.
The Poteau Pirates were sent to Stilwell for the Class 4A District Tournament.
In Class 3A baseball, Spiro will entertain Heavener for a district tournament.
In Class 2A baseball, three county schools — Pocola, Talihina and Wister — were named district hosts. The ’Cats will face county foe Panama for one Class 2A District Tournament.

SALLISAW — Last week in the LeFlore County Tournament, it took eight innings before the Spiro Bulldogs got past the Cameron Yellowjackets. While it only took seven innings, the same thing happened Thursday night.
A run in the third inning snapped a 1-1 tie to enable the ’Dogs to get past the ’Jackets 2-1 in the Sallisaw-Central Tiger Shootout.
The ’Jackets then suffered a 6-0 loss to the host Sallisaw-Central Tigers on Friday to bump them into the consolation finals at 11 a.m. this morning.
Two archrivals met earlier on Thursday as the Pocola Indians got past the Panama Razorbacks 5-2.

HARTSHORNE — The Poteau Pirates baseball team did something that really has not been done much this season — win back-to-back games.
After run-ruling the Talihina Golden Tigers Tuesday afternoon at Town Creek Park, the Pirates opened play in this weekend's Coal Miner's Classic with a 5-2 win over the Stigler Panthers Thursday afternoon.
The Pirates were slated to meet Muldrow Friday night in the championship semifinals for the right to play for the championship this afternoon in Wilburton.
The other local team in the field, the Heavener Wolves, fell 9-1 to the Eufaula Ironheads.

The LeFlore County Youth Services Golf Tournament and Dinner will take place May 24. The tournament will begin at 10 a.m. at Choctaw Country Club, with registration beginning at 9 a.m. that morning and lunch will be provided.
The entry fee is $50 per person for the four-player scramble, which inlcudes one free mulligan. Extra mulligans will cost $5 each, with a limit of two per player. Entry forms can be picked up at the LCYS office or entry may be done prior to the start of the tournament.

Murray State sweeps pair from CASC baseball team Thursday afternoon

TISHOMINGO — It was a not a good day for the Carl Albert State College baseball team Thursday afternoon as it lost a doubleheader to the Murray State College Aggies at the MSC Baseball Field. The host Aggies took a pair of run-rule games 15-5 and 14-3 — both of which ended after five innings.
The same two teams will go at it at 1 p.m. this afternoon in a doubleheader at Ival Goodman Field.

Carl Albert softball team drops pair at NEO; busy weekend of softball rained out

MIAMI, Okla. — The Carl Albert State College Lady Vikings softball team dropped a pair of games Thursday afternoon to the Northeastern Oklahoma A&M Lady Norse by scores of 2-0 and 5-1.
The Lady Vikings were to have played a doubleheader today (Saturday) against Rose State College in Midwest City, then play a twinbill Sunday afternoon in Altus against Western Oklahoma State College, but both set of games were rained out. Both are trying to be rescheduled, but have not been done so at this time.

Suspects sought in Heavener armed robbery

A local business is recovering after armed assailants
assaulted the clerk and robbed them Wednesday morning.
According to Heavener Assistant Chief of Police
Lester English, three people entered the Selecito Market
Wednesday at approximately 9:45 a.m. wearing face
masks, brandishing handguns and demanding money
from the clerk. The men then fled the scene with an
undisclosed amount of cash.
The store had a functioning surveillance system
which recorded the robbery and police have since
reviewed the footage in attempts to identify the suspects.
