The 47th Spider Webb Two-Person Scramble Golf Tournament will take place July 14-15 at Choctaw Country Club.
The entry fee for the two-person scramble is $175 per golfer, which includes range balls and a practice round on July 13 and dinner on July 14.

Friday Couple Scrambles will take place at 5:30 p.m. every Friday at Wolf Ridge Golf Course.
The entry fee is $15 per person for the nine-hole weekly event.

Daisy Mae Green

Daisy Mae Green, infant daughter of Tommy and Mary Louise (Readman) Green, died Thursday, June 28, 2012, in Tulsa. She was preceded in death by her grandmother, Karen Mitchell and great grandfather, Dud Lightfoot. 
Daisy is survived by her parents of Spiro; sisters, Vanessa and Dominique Green of Spiro; grandparents, Judy and James Crabtree of Sallisaw; great grandmother, Dora Frisbee of California; numerous aunts, uncles and other relatives.
Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, July 1, at Keota Cemetery with Rev. Don Steele officiating.

Oklahoma Elite suffer first losses of tournament to be eliminated, will finish no worse than 51st out of 200 teams

ARVADA, Colo. — The Oklahoma Elite softball team, which features players from Poteau, Spiro, Smithville and Red Oak, suffered its first losses of the Triple Crown Colorado Sparkler Tournament Friday at Lutz Complex.
The Elite dropped its first game of the tournament, falling 1-0 to the Bat Blasters, then lost 5-3 to Orange County, Calif.
In Friday's loss to the Bat Blasters, the game was scoreless through six innings, when the opponent broke through with a run in the seventh inning for a 1-0 lead.
The Elite was then retired in order in the bottom of the seventh to end the game.

Cameron baseball player enjoyed Puerto Rico experience last week

Last week, Cameron High School graduating senior baseball player Austin Standridge spent most of that time participating in the Coast to Coast Baseball Program in Puerto Rico. He said the trip was an unforgettable one.
“I'm glad to be home, but let me tell you it's was an experience that I will never forget in my opinion,” Standridge said. “It wasn't long enough. It was very different, but awesome.”
With the hopes of playing college baseball in the near future, Standridge believes participating in the Coast to Coast program will benefit him at the next level.

OK Kids Regional Tournaments happening next week; help desired from 'LeFlore County Community' to help coverage of county teams

The temperature isn't the only thing that's hot right now. So, too, is OK Kids playoff baseball.
The 2012 OK Kids Regional Tournaments for 17 LeFlore County teams will begin next week, with the desired goals being twofold — winning a regional title and qualifying for state.
At the end of this column will be the complete schedule for all regional sites, both in LeFlore County and outside the county, involving these 17 teams.

Poteau Spirit Center names Stars of Month

The Poteau Spirit Center named its June Stars of the Month
Brooke Foute was chosen for the Gymnastics Star of the Month because she works hard during class and is eager to learn new skills.
Shyanne Ward was named the Tumbler of the Month, Kaitlyn Figari the Tumblebear Award winner for the month of June and Keegan Hudlow the Competitive Team Gymnast Award for June.
