Heavener track athletes place at Wilburton Invitational

WILBURTON — Several Heavener Wolves and Lady Wolves track athletes placed at the Wilburton Invitational on March 29.
For the Wolves, Shaun Bradley won the long jump, Aaron Turner was runner-up in the discus and Dakota McGee was third in the 3,200-meter run.
For the Lady Wolves, Krista Doyle tied for first in the long jump, Laura Jo Allen won the discus and Kamber Vasquez tied for third in the high jump.

Friends make a trip to go see Thunder play in OKC

You might say I had a couple of friends who were “Thunderstruck” a few weeks ago. Charles “Donk” Perry and his wife, Sharon, jumped on “The Blake Express Plane” and flew to Oklahoma City to see the Oklahoma City Thunder play the Houston Rockets at Chesapeake Energy Arena.
Now, this was the first time the Perrys had ever flown. The Blakes' plane is a small, twin-engine plane. “Donk” said that he never has seen so many ponds and oil wells. He was a little nervous in the plane, but Sharon enjoyed the flight.

Ka’Loni Marie Flynn

Ka’Loni Marie Flynn, 20, and her unborn child, Baby Za’Kaylynn, of Fort Smith, Ark., died Monday April 9, 2012. She was born March 4, 1992, in Fort Smith to Herbert Flynn Jr. and Delana (Dixon). 
 She was preceded in death by her maternal grandmother, Marie Dixon.

Ik Cha “Nina” Kirkland

Ik Cha “Nina” Kirkland, 77, of Calhoun died Saturday, April 7, 2012, in Heavener.
Nina is the daughter of Mr. Han Kun Pak  and Ms. Hong Chu Yi, both of South Korea.
Nina lived the past 40-plus years in Calhoun.  She was a homemaker, a loving wife, mother, and grandmother.

Poteau, Heavener girls reach tonight's LeFlore County Tournament winner's-bracket final; Panama, Pocola, Spiro, Wister still alive, but Wednesday's games were rained out

As far as the winner's bracket is concerned for the 2012 LeFlore County Slow-Pitch Softball Tournament, the seeding has held true to form.
The Poteau Lady Pirates, the top seed, and the Heavener Lady Wolves, the second seed, both advanced to tonight's winner's-bracket final with wins Tuesday night at the Poteau Area Recreational Complex.
The Lady Pirates edged the Panama Lady Razorbacks 5-4, while the Lady Wolves clawed the Pocola Lady Indians 18-4.
Poteau and Heavener will meet at 5 p.m. today at the PARC with the winner playing for the championship at 8 p.m. tonight.

The Poteau Pirates run ruled the Talihina Golden Tigers 10-1 in five innings Tuesday afternoon at Town Creek Park.

HOWE — The Howe Lions picked up a home win Tuesday afternoon with a 9-2 win over the Arkoma Mustangs at Lions Field.
Leflore 13, Clayton 8: Tuesday in Leflore, the Savages rallied from a 3-0 first-inning deficit to get the come-from-behind win.
Wister 17, Hartford, Ark., 0: Tuesday in Hartford, the Wildcats (13-2) jumped out to a 5-0 lead after an inning, and ended the game with an eight-run third inning.
Jon Watts got the win as he pitched a no-hitter with six strikeouts. He missed by one batter of having a perfect game.
