Howe girls win opener in Poteau Freshmen Tournament, but host Lady Pirates fall to Fort Gibson in opener

The young felines from Howe came out much like their bigger sisters, the varsity Lady Lions, and dominated the Roland Lady Rangers by the score of 30-14 in the opening round of the Poteau Freshmen Tournament Tuesday at Sherman Floyd Fieldhouse.
However, the news was not as great for the host Lady Pirates, as they lost 32-24 in the other opening round game on Tuesday.
In boys' games, Roland defeated Sallisaw 49-36, while Fort Gibson routed Stigler 66-32.

VAN BUREN, Ark. — The host Van Buren (Ark.) Pointers proved to be too much for the Poteau Pirates in their season opener Tuesday night in the Citizens Bank Classic with a 64-39 victory.
The Pirates (1-0) played Wednesday night in the consolation semifinals against Morrilton, Ark., with the winner playing for the consolation championship at 2:30 p.m. Saturday while the loser will play for seventh place at 11:30 a.m. Saturday.
Pocola 55, Stigler 47: In Stigler, down 14-11 after one period, the Indians (1-0) outscored the Panthers 22-8 in the second quarter to take a 33-22 halftime lead.

VAN BUREN, Ark. — A combination of turnovers and a poor-shooting game spelled doom for the Poteau Lady Pirates in their season opener Tuesday afternoon in the Citizens Bank Classic as they lost 59-35 to Shiloh Christian in the opening round.
The Lady Pirates (0-1) got a bye into Saturday afternoon's consolation championship.
Bokoshe 79, Kinta 36: In Kinta, one night after a struggling-but-winning performance at Cameron, the Lady Tigers (3-0) were in rare form Tuesday night. Bokoshe jumped out to a 24-9 lead after one period and never looked back.

Heavener basketball teams begin season tonight at Spiro

Two LeFlore County schools' basketball teams will open their 2011-12 seasons against one another tonight.
The Heavener teams will visit the Spiro squads for games at 6:30 p.m. (girls) and 8 p.m. (boys) at the Spiro Gym.

Panama teams open season against archrival Pocola tonight at home

The Panama High School basketball teams will be among the final LeFlore County teams to begin their 2011-12 season tonight when they entertain their archrivals from Pocola, with the girls' game at 6:30 p.m. and the boys' contest at 8 p.m.

Connors State basketball teams sweep Carl Albert

WARNER — Behind dominating play on both ends of the floor, the Connors State College Cowboys won 81-51 over the Carl Albert State College Vikings in the Oklahoma Collegiate Athletic Conference Tuesday night.
Behind a 20-point halftime lead, the Cowgirls won 88-54 over the Lady Vikings in the opening game on Tuesday night.
The next games for the Lady Vikings will be this weekend in the Lady Viking Classic in Hillsboro, Mo. They will play Southeastern Illinois at 7 p.m. Saturday and the Maryville (Mo.) University junior varsity at noon Sunday.

Spiro freshmen boys beat Poteau in Poteau Freshmen Tournament; Heavener boys also post opening-round victory on Monday, but Wister, Heavener girls lose

The Spiro Bulldogs and the Heavener Wolves were local winners on the opening-round of the Poteau Freshmen Tournament Monday at Sherman Floyd Fieldhouse.
On the boys' side, Spiro defeated host Poteau 49-34, while Heavener knocked off Muldrow 45-28.
However, both local girls' teams in action suffered opening-round losses. Muldrow beat Heavener beat 33-27, while Wilburton edged Wister 31-26.
Tuesday's final day of opening-round action saw Roland meet Sallisaw, while Stigler played Fort Gibson in boys' games. In girls' contests, Howe faced Roland and host Poteau played Fort Gibson.

Bokoshe girls use late rally to survive scare from Cameron; Yellowjackets sting Tigers in boys' contest to celebrate homecoming

CAMERON — Thanks to a late fourth-quarter run, the Bokoshe Lady Tigers were able to withstand the upset bid by the Cameron Lady Yellowjacket to post a 42-40 victory Monday night at the Cameron Gym to spoil Cameron's homecoming.
However, the homestanding ’Jackets celebrated homecoming with a 64-24 win over the Tigers.

Whitesboro teams split road games at Battiest

BATTIEST — The Whitesboro High School basketball teams split their first games back from Thanksgiving Break Monday night with Battiest.
The Lady Bulldogs defeated the Lady Panthers 25-17, but the ’Dogs lost 58-40 to the Panthers.
