Panama girls win third place at Greenleaf Tournament, but boys lose third-place game

PORUM — The Panama High School basketball teams split their third-place games in the Greenleaf Invitational Tournament on Saturday.
The Lady Razorbacks defeated Braggs 45-40 in overtime after losing 38-27 in Friday's championship semifinals against Oaks.
The Razorbacks suffered a third-place game loss to Kinta as the Eagles prevailed 55-34. In Friday's championship semifinals, the Hogs lost 49-22 to Gore.

Arkoma teams split with Mansfield on final day of final Arkoma Classic

ARKOMA — On what will likely end up being the final day of the final Arkoma Classic, the Arkoma High School basketball teams split their games with Mansfiled, Ark.
The Lady Mustangs scored late to down Mansfield 53-51, but the Mustangs lost 51-26.
This past weekend's Arkoma Classic will likely be the last one because beginning next season there will be the first-ever Green Valley Conference Tournament — thus, taking the place of the Classic for the Arkoma teams.

Heavener teams lose consolation championship games at Hilldale Tournament on Saturday

MUSKOGEE — The Heavener High School basketball teams suffered losses in Saturday's consolation championship games of the Hilldale Tournament.
The Wolves lost 37-33 to Grove, while the Lady Wolves fell 57-43 to Vian.
Both Heavener teams posted their first wins of the season in Friday's consolation semifinals. The Wolves knocked off Morris 62-42, while the Lady Wolves handled the Morris junior varsity 49-39.

Talihina wrestlers place at Okmulgee Tournament

OKMULGEE — Five Talihina High School wrestlers placed in last week's Okmulgee Tournament.
Jasper Humphreys (106 pounds) and Andrew Young (160) were runners-up.
Derek Lester was fourth at 113 pounds, while Dylan Chancellor (195 pounds) and Jed Martin (heavyweight) were fifth.

Charles William Vineyard, 80, of Poteau died Friday, Dec. 9, 2011, in Spiro. Services will be at 2 p.m., Monday, Dec. 12, at Evans Chapel of Memories, Poteau. Burial will be in Vaughn Cemetery at Gilmore under the direction of Evans and Miller Funeral Home, Poteau.

Nyle Jones, 83, of Albion died Friday, Dec. 9, 2011, in Plano, Texas. Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 14, at the Albion Cemetery under the direction of Talihina Funeral Home.

Raymond Wilson

Raymond Wilson, 77, of Wister died Sunday, Dec. 11, 2011, in Fort Smith, Ark.
Raymond was born July 28, 1934, in Smithville to Eddie and Myrl (Romine) Wilson. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army. Raymond was a retired educator/coach. Raymond was a former board member of Wister Public Schools and Jones Academy of the Choctaw Nation. He loved hunting, fishing and the great outdoors. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and one sister.

Susie Gray Farmer

Susie Gray Farmer, 89, of Pocola, died Sunday, Dec. 11, 2011, in Fort Smith, Ark. Susie was born Feb. 21, 1922, in Eufaula to John and Lona (Pipkins) Gray. She was a retired nurse. Susie was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Pocola.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Cecil E. Farmer; daughters, Sondra and Janet; sister, Lena Karl; and brothers, Henry, Paul and Robert Gray.
Survivors include her grandson, Michael Seaman of Van Buren, Ark.; great grandson, Dylan Seaman; and sister, Mildred Hamilton of Fort Smith.

PKMS 8th-grade boys win own tournament title

The Pansy Kidd Middle School eighth-grade Raiders won their own tournament with a 34-21 win over Sallisaw on Thursday.
One other LeFlore County team, the Spiro Lady Bulldogs, lost their title game by a score of 50-43 to Roland.
The Wister Wildcats won the consolation championship with a 47-44 victory over the Spiro Bulldogs, while Pocola Indians defeated the PKMS combined seventh-eighth grade Raiders 30-19 to win seventh place.

GREENWOOD, Ark. — The Poteau Pirates basketball team gave Coach Scott Nelke the best birthday present possible on Thursday, a victory.
The Pirates used a late rally to down the Westfork (Ark.) Tigers 47-44 in the first day of the H.B. Stewart Classic.
Spiro 73, Stigler 47: In Stigler, the Bulldogs (3-0) jumped out to a 26-9 lead after one period to take control of the game.
Stilwell 42, Heavener 18: In Hilldale Tournament in Muskogee, the Wolves (0-2) fell behind Class 4A's 14th-ranked Indians 14-8 after one period and trailed the whole game.
