Poteau Youth Wrestling Club members win, place at Coweta, Salina tournaments last weekend

Several Poteau Youth Wrestling Club members had successful outings in a pair of tournaments last weekend.
At the Coweta Tournament, Rae Hendrix, Parker Rosenburg, Wyatt Snapp and Gavin Morgan all brought home the gold.
Ethan Carey and Dada Jones were second, Conner Williams and Brandon Hartley were third and Allison Hartley and Alex Ellis were fourth.
Other members who competed but did not medal were Remington Reed, Riley Rosenburg, Dakota James and Zack Dotson.

Alumni football is coming to Poteau. Gridiron Alumni is planning several full contact alumni football games.
Gridiron Alumni travels the nation pitting old football rivals against each other one more time. Players are needed to sign up, and the first 40 players on each team get to play.
The team that gets 30 people registered first gets home-field advantage. Last year, hundreds of players and thousands of fans swarmed stadiums to watch their home town heroes strap it on one more time.
This year, Gridiron Alumni would like to bring alumni football to the whole state of Oklahoma.

Troy Leon Loggains, 86, of Poteau died Thursday, Jan. 19, 2012, in Poteau. Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 21, graveside at Vaughn Cemetery in Gilmore under the direction of Evans and Miller Funeral Home, Poteau.

Leonard Thomas Shropshire, 81, of Poteau died Friday, Jan. 20, 2012, in  Fort Smith, Ark. Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 24, graveside at Kermit Cemetery, Kermit, Texas. Evans and Miller Funeral Home, Poteau, is handling arrangements.

Otis Cleo Ritter

Otis Cleo Ritter, 70, of Cameron died Thursday, Jan. 19, 2012, in Fort Smith, Ark. Cleo was born Nov. 4, 1941, at No. 10 / Howe to Will and Lula (Dodd) Ritter. He was a retired truck driver. Cleo was a member of the Southside Baptist Church in Poteau. He was an avid coon hunter, he loved animals, especially his horse, “Zipper.” Cleo was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers, Short, Raymond, Frank, Bill and Willard Ritter; and three sisters, Savola Wise, Viola Ritter and an infant girl. 

Morning accident stops traffic

There was a two motor vehicle accident on the Cavanal Scenic Expressway at approximately 8:30 a.m. Friday morning. The accident occurred at the intersection of the expressway and Franzini Street. No injuries were reported, though, one lane of traffic was closed while officials cleared he roadway.

Earl Q. Shipley, former Fort Smith businessman and beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend, passed away Jan. 6, 2012, at his home in Oro Valley, Ariz., with his loving wife of 53 years, Sharon, at his bedside.

Poteau, Heavener girls, Cameron, Pocola boys playing for fifth place

SPIRO — This afternoon's fifth-place game match-ups got set on Wednesday in Day 3 of the 80th LeFlore County Tournament at the Spiro Gym.
On the girls' side, Poteau defeated Arkoma 61-45, while Heavener beat Panama 55-44. The Lady Pirates and the Lady Wolves will meet in Friday's first game for the fifth-place plaque at 4 p.m. at the Spiro Gym.
On the boys' side, Cameron defeated Howe 66-59, while Pocola got past Talihina 55-49. The Yellowjackets and the Indians will play for the third time this season to decide fifth place at 5:30 p.m. today at the Spiro Gym.

Pocola girls, Wister Lady ’Cats, Panama, Leflore boys reach LCT consolation title contests

BOKOSHE — On the last day of action at Bokoshe Tigers Fieldhouse in the 80th LeFlore County Tournament on Wednesday, Thursday's consolation championship games — which took place at the Spiro Gym — got set.
The Pocola Lady Indians and the Wister Lady Wildcats each won their consolation semfinals Wednesday afternoon. The Lady Indians defeated the Leflore Lady Savages 46-32, while the Lady ’Cats edged the Whitesboro Lady Bulldogs 54-51.
