Talihina uses strong second half to rally past Christian Heritage Academy

DEL CITY — A strong second half enabled the Talihina Golden Tigers to down the Christian Heritage Academy Crusaders 42-28 in a battle of top-ranked teams in the state.
Trailing 21-20 at halftime, the Golden Tigers (3-0) got back-to-back touchdown passes from senior quarterback Alan Lockhart, a 49-yarder to Christian McClain and a 10-yarder to Bryar Humphreys. Both two-point conversions were successful to put Talihina ahead 36-21 in a game dubbed the eighth-ranked top match-up in the state of Oklahoma.

No. 3 Dewar too much for Arkoma

ARKOMA — The No. 3 Dewar Dragons showed the Arkoma Mustangs why they’re ranked in the top five in the state.
The Dragons blanked the Mustangs 48-0 in a game ended by the mercy rule at halftime.

Destiny Christian blanks Bokoshe Tigers

For the second time in three weeks, the Bokoshe Tigers suffered a mercy-rule loss at Tiger Stadium.
Friday night, Destiny Christian came to town from Del City and left 46-0 victors. The game was called at halftime due to the 45-point mercy rule.
The Tigers (0-3), who had three turnovers that either directly or indirectly led to three Destiny Christian touchdowns, lost their season opener 46-0 to county rival Arkoma in a game called in the early stages of the third quarter.

Quinton rally dooms Pocola

The Quinton Savages came to life in the second half for two touchdowns handing the Pocola Indians their third loss of the season by a score of 14-6 in Pocola’s home opener Friday night at John Carter Field.
Trailing 6-0 at halftime, a big play came the Savages’ way in the third quarter when Joseph Perez stepped in front of a Kyler Ree pass, returning the ball 17 yards to the Pocola 37.
On the very next play, quarterback Peyton Knell slipped through the Indians’ defense on a scramble for the score, giving the edge to the Savages at 13-6. Perez booted the extra point for the final margin.

Leflore Savages beat McCurtain Bulldogs

LEFLORE — The Leflore Savages baseball team got a 14-6, five-inning, run-ruled victory over the McCurtain Bulldogs on Thursday afternoon at John Ward Field.
The Savages, who will end up being the Class B District Tournament host next week since original district host Buffalo Valley cannot, broke a 3-all tie with a six-run third inning to take a 9-3 lead.
Editor's note: Wister's road game at Buffalo Valley was canceled due to wet fields. Cameron's home game with Eagletown and Whitesboro's home game with Battiest were canceled by the opposition.

Poteau girls sixth, Pirates 15th at Tulsa Washington Invitational

TULSA — The Poteau Lady Pirates cross country team was sixth and the Pirates 15th at Thursday’s Tulsa Washington Invitational at O’Brien Park.
The Lady Pirates had 182 points, finishing behind team champion Owasso (19 points), Claremore (78), Collinsville (96), Tulsa Edison (121) and Mannford (172).
Kandace Standridge had the highest placing as she was 13th (22:36) on the 5,000-meter course. Kylanna Hardaway was 29th (25:22), Kenzi Brown was 48th (26:55), Iris Ocamp was 51st (27:07), Sheridan Hoyer was 56th (27:22) and Taylor Darneal was 57th (27:23).
