Quinton man dies in accident

A single vehicle accident
that sent one man to
the hospital last week for
critical injuries turned
tragic after the injured
man succumbed to his
injuries on Wednesday.
According to the accident
report released by the
Oklahoma Highway
Patrol, Leon Wright, 58,
of Quinton was driving a
2004 Yamaha V-Star on
State Highway 31 approximately
two miles east of
Quinton when he attempted
to turn onto State
Highway 2.
According to the report,
Trooper Easton concluded
that Wright was traveling
too fast on a curve and as
he attempted to turn onto
SH2 he lost control and

Inmate attempts suicide

A Sebastian County
inmate set to stand trial in
Oklahoma for murder was
transported to a Fort Smith
hospital after Sebastian
County Detention Officers
discovered he was wounded.
Elvis Thacker, 23, of
Cedarville, Ark., was treated
and released at Sparks
Regional Medical Center
this weekend for a superficial
wound to his neck that
is believed to have been a
suicide attempt.
Sunday afternoon, detention
officers issued razors
to inmates who are given an
allotted amount of time to
shave, then the razors are
retrieved and disposed of.

Wister woman is assaulted outside of store

A Wister woman was
taken to Eastern Oklahoma
Medical Center Sunday
night after she was robbed
outside a Wister convenience
store.
According to Wister
Chief of Police Randy Liles,
between 9 p.m. and 10 p.m.
Sunday night, Ethel Buckner
was at the Short Stop convenience
store in Wister
when she was assaulted in
the parking lot and her purse
stolen.
Buckner, who was the
only customer, walked out
of the store and toward her
vehicle that was parked on
the side of the building in a
dark area. When she got to
her vehicle her attacker
came from some nearby
