LeFlore County recognized for Ten Commandments

Charlie Horsley of Poteau shows off the citation of recognition signed by Sen. Mark Allen, D-Dist. 4 and Brian Bingman, president pro-tem of the Senate recognizing LeFlore County as the only county in Oklahoma where all communities display the Ten Commandments. Horsley said he contacted Allen about the citation after checking with all the communities and finding that the Ten Commandments were displayed somewhere in each community.

Morning accident leaves driver in critical condition

November 15, 2012

A three-vehicle accident Thursday morning at the intersection U.S. Highway 59 and Oklahoma Highway 83 resulted in one woman being flown to a Tulsa hospital for treatment.
According to witnesses at the scene, a silver four-door car attempted to turn onto U.S. Highway 59 and in doing so, reportedly pulled out in front of a northbound black pickup. The impact caused the pickup to turn onto it's side and slide into a semi tractor trailer carrying fuel. Witnesses said the pickup impacted with the rear wheels of the semi then came to rest on it's wheels.

Poteau school holds Invention Convention

November 13, 2012

Poteau Upper Elementary students, third through fifth grade, participated in the annual Invention Convention hosted by the school on Tuesday. According to Launa Benson, coordinator and school librarian, 69 inventions were entered this year.
The Poteau Women's League judged the convention, naming first- through sixth-place winners for each participating grade. The winners will be announced during an awards assembly at the school Thursday — fourth grade at 1:30 p.m.; third grade at 2 p.m.; and fifth grade at 2:30 p.m.

Poteau Marching Band entertains during Veterans Day Parade

The Poteau High School marching band was one of the highlights of the Veterans Day Parade on Saturday. Also performing in the parade were marching bands from Spiro High School and Panama High School.
