A local author who took his love of history to a new level by publishing his first book is already planning his second.
Eric Standridge, 35, of Wister, recently published the book "The Birth of Poteau" with the help of co-author and editor George B. Shaw. The book details the historical events leading up to the incorporation of the City of Poteau until the Great Depression.
According to the LeFlore County Commissioners, until the governor of Oklahoma rescinds her burn ban, it will still be illegal to burn in LeFlore County.
According to Michael Davidson, director of LeFlore County Emergency Management, Gov. Mary Fallin ordered a burn ban on Aug. 3 to last until Sept. 3. With her proclamation still in effect, the county commissioners determined the local burn ban would remain in effect as well.
