July 25th
On Wednesday morning, the Poteau High School began testing students who participate in extracurricular activities as part of it's newest policy. Students waited at the entrance to Senior Hall until they were administered a drug test by certified medical personnel. The tests are targeting performance enhancement drugs and illegal narcotics use.

The Excise Board of LeFlore County, Oklahoma has scheduled a regular business meeting for July 27, 2012 at 10 a.m. in the office of the Board of County Commissioners at Poteau, Oklahoma.

The Budget Board of LeFlore County has scheduled a regular business meeting on July 31, 2012 at 8:30 a.m. in the office of the Board of County Commissioners at Poteau, Oklahoma.
Agenda:
1. Approval of minutes from previous meetings.
2. Approval of request for appropriations.
3. approval of transfer of appropriations.
4. Meet with Phillip Zearley, Election Board Secretary, concerning pay raise.
5. Discussion and possible action on County Clerk geting a total of $2,000 per month from Fire Department sales tax.
6. Old business.
As heat conditions continue to worsen and drought conditions rise toward extreme, fires, such as brush piles and burning trash, are still being reported.
A burn ban has been in effect since July 3 across the county yet fire and police departments are reporting responding to calls of people burning on their property.
A person is subject to financial and criminal penalties for open burning during a burn ban.

As required by Section 311, Title 25 of the Oklahoma Statutes, notice is hereby given that the Board of Education of Independent School District No.49, LeFlore County, Oklahoma, will hold a regular meeting Monday, July 23, 2012 at 6 p.m. in the Family and Consumer Science Room of the High School Building, Wister Public Schools, 201 Logan Street, Wister, Oklahoma.
The board reserves the right to take action on or table any item on the agenda.

July 19th
Recent unemployment numbers released by the Oklahoma Employment Security Commission show employment rates hit a record high.
According OESC, even with the record high in employment, LeFlore County led the state in unemployed workers at 8.5 percent.
Out of an estimated labor force of 19,194 workers, 17,568 were employed, leaving 1,626 LeFlore County citizens without jobs. The over the year unemployment rate dropped from 10.5 percent to the current rate.
A week ago a young girl placed a sign on an old Oak tree behind her family's business pleaded for the tree to be saved during the construction of the new Patrick Lynch Public Library.
Having made her plea public and gaining the attention of the city and the construction company, she was soon rewarded with the knowledge her tree would remain.
"I encourage people to speak out, do things and feel free," said Jenny. "It what freedom means. I am really happy they are saving the tree."

the editor written by a
local business owner
accusing a Monroe woman
of scamming him out of
money. It now seems as
though another business
owner has attempted to
warn the public about this
woman and her family.
A sign posted on the
doors of the Heavener and
Hodgen Tote-A-Poke
states, “Attention: Scam.
Do not give money to Kyle
- Steve- or Teri Tiffee.
They are out pandering
money.”
The notice is signed by
Mick LaFevers who owns
the Tote-A-Poke stores.

A young child injured last week in an automobile accident near Long Lake Resort has been released from the hospital.
Johnny Reed, 32, and Kristin Reed, 4, both of Waldron, were severely injured when the truck they were driving collided with the bed of a truck turning into Long Lake Resort.
According to the report from the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, Kristin was thrown approximately 50 feet from the vehicle. She was flown to Children's Hospital in Little Rock Ar., and listed in critical condition. Sources say she was released Monday.
