Heavener police probe stabbing

July 9, 2012

A woman is recovering after her boyfriend allegedly stabbed her at a Heavener motel. According to the Heavener Pol ice Department, officers were dispatched to the Crane Motel July 1 after they received reports of a stabbing. When they arrived they found the victim, Tammie Jelks and two juvenile males at the motel who claimed Jelks boyfriend, Gregory Alan Andrews, 41, of Fort Smith, had stabbed her during an argument. Statements from the victim and witnesses claim an argument between Jelks and Andrews began over money.

Tulsa author's heart still in Poteau

The second book from an Oklahoma author who’s from the area now has even more ties to LeFlore County.
Author Joe Harwell of Tulsa was in Poteau in February for a book signing at the Lowrey Hotel. While in the area he had dinner with Jack Holt of Jack’s Jewelry. The two are old friends and graduated together. Harwell asked Holt to design a pendant to match the cover of his second book “Upside Down Heart.” Holt accepted the opportunity and worked with his jeweler

Technical difficulties at the LeFlore County Election Board resulted in a delay in the results of several races leaving candidates wondering the outcome overnight.
Tuesday’s Primary Election included five races, one of which has possibly resulted in a runoff election on August 28.

Precincts continue to report total ballots for candidates in five separate races during tonight's Primary Election. As of 9:20 p.m. only seven precincts have not reported results.
As ballots are tallied, PDN will continue to post updated unofficial results as precincts continue to report their results.
Reporting precincts - 205, 208, 203, 207, 212, 213, 215, 202, 111, 107, 204, 112, 102, 306, 310, 108, 104, 210, 114, 103, 201.

Polls close in todays primary election

Across LeFlore County voters cast their vote during today's Primary Election in hopes of seeing their candidate win their prospective campaign.
As ballots are tallied, PDN will continue to post updated unofficial results as precincts continue to report their results.
Reporting precincts - 205, 208, 203, 207, 212, 213, 215.
LeFlore County Sheriff, Democratic race: Kendall Morgan - 227; Rob Seale - 626; Bruce Curnutt - 528 and Eric Helms - 55.
LeFlore County Clerk, Paul Croft - 208; Kelli Ford - 1146.

This week's Spring Into Business Cash Mob site

Peppercorn Mall is the site of this weeks Spring into Business Cash Mob.
Located at 203 Dewey Avenue in downtown Poteau, Peppercorn Mall has been in business for 18 years and buys and sells antiques, collectibles, and gold and silver.
Special to the cash mob, some booths will be marked 25 to 50 percent off and any item marked with a red "X" is automatically half price. Cash Mob pricing is valid from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. on Wednesday June 27.

Drug raid at local restaurant

June 26, 2012

Diners at a local restaurant encountered a temporary delay in food service Sunday morning after a narcotics search warrant was served at the establishment. Sources say agents with District 16 Drug Task Force along with the assistance of Poteau Police Department, Oklahoma Highway Patrol and Shady Point Police Department K9’s unit swarmed Los 3 Amigos located at 2811 N. Broadway in Poteau at approximately noon on Sunday.
Two people were arrested and an undisclosed amount of methamphetamines
located inside the restaurant was seized by
