188th Fighter Wing to greet U.S. Airforce Chief of Staff

Gen. Mark Welsh III, U.S. Air Force Chief of Staff is scheduled to tour the 188th Fighter Wing in Fort Smith Friday.
Oklahoma Senator James Inhofe, along with both Arkansas Senators, Mark Pryor and John Boozman plan to attend the meeting to discuss proposed changes to the 188th cause by cuts to defense spending.
The potential of the A-10 mission from the 188th being replaced by unmanned aircraft has been discussed since the passing of a $640 billion defense bill last month.
The meeting is scheduled to take place 11 a.m. at TAC Air FBO Fort Smith Regional Airport.

Charges filed in LeFlore County Courthouse stemming from December police chase

Charges have been filed against Erica Racelle Wright, 29, of Poteau after police say she led a sheriff's deputy on short chase after crashing into a utility pole while intoxicated.
The events, which took place in December, started at the E-Z Mart in Poteau when a sheriffs deputy approached Wright on suspicion of driving while intoxicated.
Wright reportedly fled from the deputy in her vehicle, crashed into a utility pole, and then continued to flee.
Wright was eventually apprehended after two tires blew out.

Local cities pass resolutions for April elections

With the filing period drawing near for municipal candidates, several cities have passed resolutions for the upcoming April election.
As of Jan. 17, nine local municipalities have filed their election resolution with the LeFlore County Election Board.
Filing period for candidates planning to enter a local race begin Feb. 4 at 8 a.m. and end Feb. 6 at 5 p.m.
The municipal elections will be held on Tuesday, April 2.
