The Vike @ Nite Black Light Run is scheduled for 6 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 24, at Carl Albert State College in Poteau.Â
Preregistration is open until Oct. 10 for an entry fee of $20, and $30 for registration thereafter. CASC students with a current student ID will pay an entry fee of $15. Registration forms can be found at www.carlalbert.edu or by contacting Hali Repass at firstname.lastname@example.org. Online registration is available at http://www.eventbrite.com/event/8189634417/es2/?rank=1. On-site registration will be from 3:30-4:30 p.m. the day of the race.
Team members Whitney Kirby, Hali Repass and Beth Phillips brought home medals for their second-place finish in the the Redman Triathalon held recently at Lake Hefner in Oklahoma City. About 30 LeFlore County residents participated in the event.
Firefighter Don Goforth talks to a motorist at Broadway and Dewey on Saturday while collecting donations for the Fill the Boot campaign for Jerry's Kids. Â±Other firefighters at the intersection included Fred Hardesty, Joe Wiles and Charles Goodman. Other crews manned different locations throughout Poteau.

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month and events are scheduled to help boost public awareness of the important topic.
The month-long emphasis kicks off on Thursday with â€śWear Purple Dayâ€ť. Everyone is encouraged to wear purple to show support for victims and survivors of domestic violence. Also Thursday is a press conference and awards ceremony at the State Capitol in Oklahoma City.
