According to Panama Police Chief John Whiteaker, the shooting happened on Pierce Road at about 2 p.m. Saturday.
Whiteaker said the 16-year-old teen and a 14-year-old friend were walking along the road as they returned from a hunting trip. The friend tripped, which resulted in the .243-caliber rifle he was carrying to discharge and the bullet striking the teen in the neck, according to Whiteaker.
