A 3-year-old boy wandered away from Poteau Primary Elementary School, causing several tense minutes for police and school employees Tuesday morning.
The child was found after about 25 minutes on Redbud Lane, Superintendent Don Sjoberg said.
The preschool pupil apparently slipped through a fence during recess about 9 a.m., Sjoberg said.
With temperatures expected to fall as low as 13 degrees this weekend, the National Weather Service in Norman has issued a Winter Storm Watch for LeFlore, Pushmataha and Choctaw counties. Sebastian county in Arkansas is also under watch.
The storm is expected to arrive Thursday, with more than a quarter inch of ice likely and a low temperature of 28 degrees. Friday nightâ€™s low temperature is projected at 13 degrees.
A Panama high school teen died late Sunday from injuries suffered when he was shot accidentally by a 14-year-old friend while returning from a hunting trip.
According to Panama Police Chief John Whiteaker, Ryan Self, 16, of Panama was walking along the road with his friend when the accidental shooting occurred about 2 p.m. Nov. 23.
According to police reports, Ryanâ€™s friend tripped and fell causing the .243-caliber rifle to discharge, striking Ryan in the neck.
A former Poteau woman died Sunday in a head-on collision near Alma, Ark., according to Arkansas State Police.
Joyce Mirus, 51, of Mulberry, Ark., died at the scene of the accident on U.S. 71 in Crawford County, according to the ASP report.
