February 20th
Several area schools closed early today due to winter weather making travel hazardous.
Pocola Schools closed at 11:30 a.m.
Panama Schools are not closing early but will be closed Thursday
Wister Schools are closing at 1 p.m.
Shady Point Schools are closing at 12:15 p.m.
Other schools within the county are allowing parents to pick up children early but are not closing due to children who may not have someone at their home.
A new physician is joining the team at Eastern Oklahoma Medical Center in Poteau.
The board of trustees of the LeFlore County Hospital Authority unanimously agreed to enter into contract with Dr. Doug Duke, D.O., during its regular meeting Tuesday afternoon.
According to the National Weather Service, LeFlore County will remain under a winter weather advisory until noon Thursday.
Other counties included in the advisory are Cherokee, Adair, Creek, Wagoner, Tulsa, Rogers, Mayes, Pittsburg, Sequoyah, Latimer and Haskell. Sebastian County in Arkansas is also under advisory.

Poteau Health & Wellness Center will hold a grand opening and open house from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 21, at 204 Wall Street, Suite A.
Teresa Huggins, CEO, will welcome guests, followed by an invocation given by Wayne Hoffman.
Special guest speaker will be Greta Stewart, executive director of the Oklahoma Primary Care Association.
Poteau Chamber of Commerce will hold a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 11:45.
Lunch will provided by The Community State Bank of Poteau, followed by tours of the facility.
Nicole Braddock Bromley of OneVoice Enterprises along with her mother, Cynthia Stiverson wish to “Break the Silence” by teaching victims of sexual abuse to speak out.

Organizers have postponed the 15th annual Trivia Night to benefit Special Olympics, according to Area 10 Director Randy Weaver.
"Due to some scheduling conflicts by some teams and key individuals needed to make this event successful, we felt this needed to be done.
"We are sorry for any inconveniences and thank you for your understanding," Weaver said.
Weaver said the annual fundraiser will be rescheduled for this fall.

The Poteau Kiwanis Club will hold its annual pancake breakfast from 6 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 23, at the Bob Lee Kidd Civic Center.Â
The annual fundraiser helps the club provide many services to the youth of Poteau, including the Learn to Swim program and much more.Â
Tickets are available from Kiwanis Club members for $5 and will also be available at the door.Â
The breakfast features all-you-can eat pancakes, bacon, sausage, along with coffee, orange juice and milk.Â

Several volunteer fire departments responded to a house fire on Tanksley Road near Bokoshe Monday morning.
According to fire officials, the home has been unoccupied for several years. No utilities were connected at the house.
The fire occurred at approximately 1 a.m. Monday morning and reignited around 10:30 a.m.
The fire is under investigation according to an investigator with the Oklahoma State Fire Marshal's Office.

Do you remember your first date? Would you rather forget it? The odd and exciting world of dating is the subject of the Good Times Community Theatre League's latest production, "I Love You, You're Perfect, Now Change!"
Evening performances are set for 7 o'clock Feb. 22-23 and a matinee is scheduled for 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 24.

February 14th
Things will heat up today when the 17th annual Chili Cooking Contest kicks off at Carl Albert State College.
The competition will take place from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the second floor of the Costner-Balentine Student Center. Â
Tickets are $7 and cover all-you-can-eat chili, hot dogs, drinks and desserts.
Prizes will be awarded to those who make the tastiest chili. Several door prizes will also be given away and a silent auction will feature an array of items.
