February 13th
School board seats have been filled and a bond issues settled after Tuesday's election.
Shady Point voters elected Gary Wright over Shila Waddle, 85 to 36.
Fanshawe voters elected Casey Osterhout 13 to 9 over Brandon Baldwin to finish an unexpired term.
Spiro voters chose Raymond Rhodes over Eddie Stout by a vote of 162 to 112.
In Heavener, Lee Morris won 52 to 48 over Todd Vickers.
In Talihina, Brian Holland won the open board seat, beating Rodney Faulkenberry by a vote of 148 to 68.
February 12th
Voters in six LeFlore County communities will cast ballots for school board candidates today. Shady Point voters also will decide on a $175,000 school bond proposal.
Polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., according to Election Board Secretary Sharon Steele. Anyone in line when a poll closes will be allowed to cast a ballot.

Voters are required to show a government-issued photo ID or their voter registration card.
The oldest buiding in Wister was destroyed by fire Sunday evening.
Arlene's Collectibles, owned by Hardy and Arlene Coston, was built in 1903, holding the title of oldest building in Wister, according to Traci Barnes, the Coston's daughter. The building housed vintage and antique items for not only the Coston's but for 23 vendors.

The Treble Choir of the Cavanal Chorale performs Saturday night at the Boys and Girls Clubs of LeFlore County annual dinner. The event was attended by about 300 people, according to Boys and Girls Clubs Executive Director Clay Roper.

The Poteau City Council placed a moratorium on small business buildings Monday night, pending possible changes to zoning laws.
Mayor Jeff Shockley said no specific businesses are being targeted and the move is meant to protect and maintain attractive business districts.
The moratorium affects commercial buildings less than 20 feet wide.
Shockley said the city Planning Commission will be asked to look at zoning requirements and decide if they should be amended.

A Super Bowl party turned violent Sunday night after a man was shot three times at his home.
According to LeFlore County Undersheriff, Kendall Morgan, Robert G. Hamner, 35, was shot three times in the abdomen after a domestic altercation erupted. Hamner and four other people were inside the home on Pleasant Valley Road in Poteau when the shooting occurred.
Employees of AES Shady Point donated money they raised for two area organizations by hosting a silent auction during their annual employee Christmas Party. The employees raised more than $3,600 at the event. The Christian Free Medical Clinic and LeFlore County Youth Services each received checks in the amount of $1,834, after being chosen by AES employees as the beneficiaries of their fundraising efforts.
Wister residents are asked to call 911 to report fires instead of the old Fire Department number.
The old number was disconnected Wednesday, according to City Manager Linston Chronister.
Under the new system, firefighters will be dispatched by radio from the LeFlore County 911 center in Poteau. The center dispatches fire and ambulance calls and routes other emergency calls to the appropriate law enforcement agency.
Wister officials posted news of the change on the city marquee at the park.
Non-emergency calls still can be made to City Hall at (918) 655-7421.

Friends of Buckley Library are hosting the second annual Chocolate Decadence Party and Contest from 5-6 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 12, at the Lowery Hotel.Â
To enter -
• Bring your entry form to the library by Feb. 8.
• The recipe must contain chocolate. It does not have to be completely chocolate.
• Entry must serve at least 24.
• Drop off entry at the Lowery Hotel by 1 p.m. Feb. 12.
The criteria used for judging is creativity, taste and visual appeal. Categories are professional or culinary student, adult amateur (18 and up), and youth amateur (Under 18).
A Poteau man was charged with domestic assault and battery with a dangerous weapon after he allegedly attacked his girlfriend with a steak knife.
Michael D. Jefferson, 42, of Poteau is accused of cutting his girlfriends cheek several times with a steak knife during an altercation. His girlfriend told police Jefferson also grabbed her by the neck.
Jefferson was jailed at the LeFlore County Detention Center in connection with the incident. He has been released after posting bail in the amount of $10,000.
