POTEAU RELAY FOR LIFE
All cancer survivors are invited to take part as special guests in the opening ceremonies of the LeFlore County Relay for Life on Sept. 7 at Costner Stadium.
Survivors and their caregivers are ask to arrive around 5:30 p.m. and register in the survivors are for refreshments and fellowship, organizers said.
They also are invited to take part in the commemorative survivor lap that begins every Relay for Life.
Teams of fundraisers remain through the night, with at least one member walking the track. The top fundraisers are recognized.
Members of the Poteau Police Department and the LeFlore County Sheriff's Department searched for the driver involved in a single car accident on Old Oklahoma highway 112 Wednesday about 4 p.m. Poteau police said a man believed to be the driver of the vehicle was seen by witnesses running into nearby woods just after the accident happened. Oklahoma Highway Patrol investigated the accident.

A man on a bicycle was injured Wednesday afternoon after he was struck by a Maroon SUV. According to Heavener Police, the man was traveling north on U.S. highway 59 and was struck by the southbound SUV at an intersection near Marvin's IGA. Police said they are still investigating the accident. The injured man was taken to the hospital with head, neck and leg injuries.
Country music legend Gene Watson will perform at the Donald W. Reynolds Center in Poteau on Nov. 2.
Doors will be open to the public at 6:00 pm with concert starting at 7:30 pm. All proceeds will benefit Heavener Runestone Park to help keep it open and free for the public.
