Shady Point voters will be asked to fill an at-large seat on the town Board of Trustees today.
The polling place at the Mike Mass Civic Center will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Four candidates will be on the special election ballot: LeRoy Smith, Henry Wells, Becky Smith and Derrall Bud Killion.
The special election was called after town trustee were unable to agree between two candidates for the position.
Both candidates were interviewed in a public session by the board, but neither was elected.
The risk of wildfires is expected to be very high today as a dry cold front and gusty winds move across eastern Oklahoma, according to the National Weather Service.
The NWS issued the warning for all of Oklahoma except the Panhandle and McCurtain County, as well as west central Arkansas.
Monday's fire risk was limited, but the NWS predicted a "very high fire weather potential" today with northwest winds gusting up to 30 mph.
The risk was expected to decrease through the rest of the week as the winds subside to 5-15 mph, the NWS said.
Outdoor burning is discouraged.
Area lawmakers will discuss upcoming issues and concerns at the annual legislative breakfast meeting from 8-9 a.m.. Friday, Jan. 24.
The breakfast will be held in the historic Lowrey Hotel at Witte Street and Dewey Avenue in downtown Poteau.
The breakfast is sponsored by the LeFlore County Farm Bureau and Poteau Chamber of Commerce.
