AP- Former Oklahoma quarterback Steve Davis was among two victims in a plane crash Sunday in South Bend, Ind. A South Bend television station confirmed the death with the cororner.
Two persons survived the crash and are hospitalized. A woman on the ground was injured. The second victim has not been identified.
Davis, 60, was best known as the Sooners’ quarterback from 1973-75. During that span OU went 32-1-1 and claimed back-to-back national championships in 1974 and 1975. His 32 wins were a program record until it was surpassed this past season by Landry Jones.

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — A Democratic House member who shouted at a Republican colleague following a late-night floor session has apologized on the House floor.
Heavener Democrat James Lockhart delivered a brief but emotional apology Wednesday from the well at the front of the House. He then received a standing ovation.
Following a floor session on Tuesday that lasted until midnight, Lockhart could be heard shouting at Faxon Republican Rep. Don Armes, who was presiding over the chamber. Several Democrats were frustrated Armes wouldn't recognize members of their party for various motions.

LeFlore County Undersheriff Kendall Morgan confirmed Myrtly Cooper, 47, of Spiro, passed away Thursday morning at a Tulsa hospital. Cooper was the alleged victim of an assault and a house fire on Jan. 14 and has been listed in critical condition since the incident.
Elec E. Cusick, 39, of Spiro, was charged with kidnapping and assault and battery by means likely to produce death in connection with Cooper's injuries.

LeFlore County District Attorney Jeff Smith filed a bill of particulars Wednesday morning stating that he will seek the death penalty in the case of Johnathen Don James Edward Thacker, 24, of Cedarville, Ark., who was scheduled to appear for his district court arraignment Wednesday afternoon on charges of first-degree murder and forcible sodomy in the September 2010 death of 22-year-old Brianna Ault of Pocola.
Thacker is being represented by Oklahoma Indigent Defense System attorneys Bobby Lewis and Gary Henry, both of Norman.

Come celebrate the end of Winter and beginning of Spring at the 24th Annual Family Kite Flite Day at the Spiro Mounds Archaeological Center. The Kite Flite Day will be held from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. on Saturday, March 19, 2011. Normally there is an entry fee to the site but this will be a Free Day although donations are appreciated. It will be a great day for families and folks of all ages.
Friends of the Buckley Library held their first St. Paddy's Day 5K run/walk Saturday morning.
More than 150 people participated in the event.
All proceeds will go toward the completion of the Patrick Lynch Library scheduled to open in May.
Winners were announced in 15 event categories. Over male finisher was Matt Aguero and Hali Repass took the finish line as top female finishers.
The monthly Jumpstart family literacy program will be held in the Donald W. Reynolds Community Center for the next three months, according to Dorene Doyle, director of the LeFlore County Literacy Council.
The family reading and activity event is held at 5:30 p.m. on the last Tuesday of each month. The next Jumpstart will be March 26.
The event includes a story reading for younger children, craft activity and free books for children up to age 11 and their parents or guardians.
Free refreshments also are provided.

STILLWATER, Okla. – About this time every year, Oklahomans watch thousands upon thousands of acres of land burn up in wildfires. However, this fire season has been better than usual due to the low grassy fuel loads caused by drought during last year’s growing season.
While we have seen some recent moisture across much of the state, how big of an effect does it have on wildfire this time of year?

LeFlore County Demcrats and Republicans will hold grass roots organizationsl meetings next week
The LeFlore County Democratic Party will hold precinct meetings at 7 p.m. Thursday. Precinct meetings will be held at voting places in which each person votes.

County Republicans will hold their annual precinct meeting and county convention at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 16, at Western Sizzlin in Poteau.
Business will include election of precinct officials, convention delegates and officers.
