First I would like to thank the citizens of LeFlore County for the opportunity of serving as your Sheriff for the last four years. It has been both an honor, and a privilege that you placed your confidence in me to allow me to serve you. I am formally announcing my candidacy to serve as your Sheriff for another term. My wife Francine Curnutt, who is a career educator of 26 years at the Wister Public School system, along with my two daughters Callie and Andrianna, and myself live in the Wister community.
A man accused of possessing child pornography appeared in District Court Thursday morning as proceedings continue.
Marty Hester, 52, of Hodgen, appeared before Special Judge Jeff Singer with his defense attorney Rob Cowan present. Hester, who was arrested in October, appeared for his preliminary hearing. After consulting with his attorney, Hester signed a waiver declining his rights to a preliminary hearing and was set for District Court Arraignment on May 30.
At approximately 1 p.m. Tuesday afternoon, the Poteau Fire and Police Departments along with LeFlore County EMS were dispatched to the Poteau Valley Apartments on Windham Street in Poteau in response to a vehicle that had reportedly been driven through an apartment.
Rescue workers on the scene said that the white sedan was pulling into a parking space when the driver accidentally hit the accelerator instead of the brake, launching the car over the sidewalk and down an embankment into the living room of an apartment.
A woman crashes into an apartment at Poteau Valley Apartments today. Three children were injured in the collision. PDN will update the website when more information becomes available.
Thursday February 23, changed the life of one local family following a tragic motorcycle accident.
Samuel "Caleb" Davies , 27, of Poteau was flown by Life Flight to St. Francis Hospital in Tulsa after he lost control of his motorcycle that afternoon.
More than 30 spellers comprising ten teams gathered to compete at the annual Literacy Council of LeFlore County Adult Spelling Bee Thursday night. The annul event is held has fund raiser for the Literacy Council of LeFlore County. This years winners were the Super Sats sponsored by Southern Star, Inc. Each of the winners received a trophy and door prizes were awarded throughout the night.

An area family may soon have a cure for their son's debilitating neurological disorder.
When Brett Brown was born, he appeared to be a normal and healthy baby boy, but by the time he was six months old, his parents began to notice that Brett was not developing as quickly as he should.
Doctors initially diagnosed Brett with cerebral palsy. However, when Brett was two years old, a therapist talking with Brett's family correctly diagnosed Brett with Angelman's Syndrome, a neruo-genetic disorder.
In the retirement story on the front page of the Wednesday, April 18, edition of PDN it was incorrectly stated that Rob Seale and Jim Noggle farewell reception would be held today. The retirement party is scheduled from noon until 2 p.m. at the Poteau City Hall on Friday, April 27. PDN regrets this error.
