SCATTERED SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS OCCURRING OVER PARTS OF
EASTERN OKLAHOMA AND WEST-CENTRAL ARKANSAS. ALL OF THIS ACTIVITY
CONTINUES TO MOVE OFF TO THE SOUTHEAST AT AROUND 20 MPH.

THROUGH 7:45 PM...SCATTERED SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS WILL
REMAIN POSSIBLE FOR LOCATIONS ACROSS NORTHEAST OKLAHOMA...ALONG

Poker tables back in play

POCOLA – Choctaw Casino Hotel in Pocola, Okla., is pleased to announce that poker will be returning to the casino today [July 14].

“We are so excited to be bringing poker back to the casino, and can’t wait to celebrate the return of this much loved game,” said Walter Allen, marketing and player development director at Choctaw Casino Hotel. “We know our guests are excited about this addition, and the Bad Beat promo will be a fun way to celebrate.”

Pocola Board of Education to meet

The Pocola Board of Education will meet tonight [July 14] at 6:30 p.m. at the board of education room at 603 E. Pryor in Pocola.
Teacher salary and reinvesting of school funds are on the agenda.

Poteau School Board to discuss bus purchases

July 14, 2014

The Poteau Board of Education will meet at 6 p.m. tonight [July 14] to discuss several items.
The purchase of buses for the upcoming school years as well as annual contracts and staff salaries also will be discussed.
The meeting will take place at the Superintendent building located at 100 Mockingbird Lane in Poteau.

Local resident has day named after her

Local resident Crystal Dawn Keeton has had a day named after her.

Oklahoma State Representative James Lockhart bestowed upon Crissy Keeton that she would have a day named after her in recognition of service to her community.

Keeton had a hand in the replacement of a torn American flag at the Feed Supplement Plant in Poteau. The flag had been damaged by storms.

Representative Lockhart wrote a proclamation that announced and recognized June 20, 2014 as Crystal D. Keeton Day.

Job Connect event slated for July 15

The Choctaw Nation will host a job connect event July 15 from 11 a.m. until 6 p.m. at the Choctaw Nation Community Centers in Poteau and Spiro.

Review of allegations against State Trooper confirmed

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol has confirmed a Trooper level review of allegations brought forth against State Trooper Daniel Martin.

A complaint alleged that Martin, during the first days of Cadet Lawmen academy, shared an inappropriate adult photo (not of himself) to another Trooper. The incident was reported to Academy staff. It was decided that since Trooper Martin's son was in attendance at the academy, it would be in best interest to release Trooper Martin from this special assignment.

Historical Society looking for adoptees

The LeFlore County Historical Society is seeking help to return vintage awnings to the exterior of the Hotel Lowrey.
How can you help? Adopt an awning.
"The price [$400] includes one awning and a one-year membership to the LeFlore County Historical Society," said Lori Rutledge, society director. "We are going to start with the third-floor windows on Dewey Avenue first and then work our way to the third floor windows on the Witte Street side."
The Society hopes to replace all awnings.

Mo Bandy to perform July 12

Friends of the Heavener Runestone are hosting a benefit concert this weekend to raise funds for park operations.
Country music star Moe Bandy will play Saturday at the Donald W. Reynolds Center in Poteau. The concert begins at 7:30 p.m. with doors opening at 6 p.m.
Advance tickets are $30 for premium and $20 general; box office prices will be $35 and $25, respectively.

One trapped in two-car wreck

July 11, 2014

About 4 p.m. today [July 11], Poteau police investigated a two-car accident at the Hardy and Cruce Street intersection.
According to police, the pickup failed to stop for a stop sign.
Both passengers in the car were taken by LeFlore County EMS to an area hospital.
