Municipal elections will be decided today [April 7] in several towns.
Polls will be open until 7 p.m.
Races include: Poteau Mayor, Poteau Street Commissioner, Poteau City Council — two seats; Talihina, Heavener, Wister, Cameron, Spiro, Panama, Pocola, Shady Point, Arkoma and Howe board of trustee seats.
Also tonight will be town elections held at the the area town halls in Cartersville, Rock Island and Fort Coffee.

The Poteau City Council with meet tonight, Monday, April 6, at 7 p.m. in the City Hall building at 111 Peters St., Poteau.

Agenda items include:

• the presentation of service pins to Fred Hardest and Paul Quirk

• consideration or action to fill vacant seats on the planning commission

• consideration or action to approve a resolution to amend and restate Trust Indenture for the Oklahoma Municipal Retirement Fund

• consideration or action to sign renewal of memorandum of understanding between Carl Albert State College and the City of Poteau

Oklahoma House approves teacher sexual misconduct measure

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — Local school districts would be encouraged to report accusations of sexual misconduct by teachers to state education officials under legislation approved by the Oklahoma House on Thursday.

Proponents said it's needed to prevent "teacher hopping" by sexual predators who move from one school district to the next to prey upon children. But opponents said such cases are usually handled by the courts and the bill could unfairly tarnish the reputation of a teacher who is falsely accused.

A three-car accident in the southbound lane at the 800 block of North Broadway in Poteau is slowing traffic {April 2 @ 3:40 p.m.]
Poteau Police are investigating the crash.
It is unknown if anyone is injured.
