Oklahoma judge dismisses Ten Commandments lawsuit

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — The privately funded Ten Commandments monument on the grounds of the Oklahoma Capitol does not violate the state constitution and can stay there, an Oklahoma County judge said Friday in a ruling that attorneys who filed the lawsuit vowed to appeal to the state Supreme Court.

District Judge Thomas Prince granted a motion filed on behalf of the Oklahoma Capitol Preservation Commission to block the lawsuit from going to trial.

Prison escapee in LeFlore County identified

Caleb A. Bates, 24, is described as 5'11" and weighs 169 lbs. with brown hair, blue eyes and tattoos on his arms and back, according to the Oklahoma Department of Corrections website.
At about 12:25 p.m. Thursday [Sept. 19] Bates reportedly walked away from work detail in Howe. He was last seen in the area of Texas Street walking west on the railroad tracks.
He was sentenced to 10 years for drug charges in Johnson County. He also has convictions of burglary and possession of stolen property.
Law enforcement still are searching the area for Bates.

LeFlore County authorities searching for escaped prisoner

Law enforcement are sarching at about 1 p.m. Thursday [Sept. 19] near Howe in the area of Texas Street and Ivy Street for a Jim Hamilton prisoner who ran while on work detail.
He was last spotted heading west on the railroad tracks.
He is described as a white male in his 20s.
If you believe you see the man contact the Sheriff's Office at (918) 647-2317.
Do not attempt to approach him.
No other information is available at this time.

EOMC pre-bid conference tomorrow

A pre-bid conference meeting and possible site visit for the Eastern Oklahoma Medical Center construction project is set tomorrow.

The meeting will occur at the Donald W. Reynolds Center at 11 a.m.

Anyone interested in bidding on the project or interested in the project details is invited to the meeting.

Attendees should expect 30 minutes of talk about the Nabholz Construction Services company, a layout of pre-bids and information on guidelines, insurance information and other standard needs a company must have to bid.

There may be a walk-through of the future construction areas.

Fourth-annual La Fiesta set tomorrow

Friends of Patrick Lynch Public Library's La Fiesta is set tomorrow.

The event will take place on Thursday, Sep. 18, from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Donald W. Reynolds Center in Poteau.

The fundraising fiesta will feature a taco bar and live auction, with several items up for bid. Proceeds raised will go to benefit the library.

Tickets are $20 in advance and $25 at the door.
Tickets can be purchased the Patrick Lynch Public Library.

This is the Friends' fourth-annual La Fiesta benefit. They raised $12,000 in 2012 that went to benefit library programs, camps and furnishings.
