The report of a grassfire Thursday afternoon on Quays Road near Shady Point resulted in multiple agencies responding.
The fire was atop a hill in a heavily wooded and leaf covered area approximately 100 yards from a residence. Shady Point and Panama Fire Departments were able to extinguish the fire before it endangered the residence.
August 23rd
A Poteau woman has been charged with embezzlement after a local store reported more than $1,000 missing.
Jewell Pauline Bowles, 31, of Poteau, is accused of taking a stolen credit card valued at $400 along with $1040 cash over a two week period from her employer, EZ Mart in Poteau.
Investigators said Bowles admitted to taking the alleged amounts but it is $200 less than the store reported missing.
A special meeting of the LeFlore County Emergency Medical Services board has been scheduled for Monday Aug. 26 at 4 p.m. The meeting will be held in the conference room located at 1215 S. Broadway in Poteau.
The meeting has been scheduled to discuss and possibly vote on awarding previously received radio bids.
The Oklahoma Bureau of Narcotics Is in Poteau holding an OBN education day at the Donald W. Reynolds Center today. More than 70 people from local law enforcement, city and county leaders as well as media are in attendance learning about the importance of the agency and the mission they have with regard to the eradication of illegal narcotics in the state of Oklahoma.

A multi-agency task force served a search warrant at a Poteau residence Wednesday afternoon putting an end to a marijuana grow operation.
Officers with the Poteau Police Department removed marijuana plants from the residence soon after the warrant was served.
Several people were being detained outside the home but as of press time none had been transported to the LeFlore County Detention Center.
The summer concert series "Under the Stars" is underway at the Donald W. Reynolds Center Amphitheater and the San Antonio based band The KLO:CKS will be taking the stage.
The band is well known for their upbeat performance including the top 40 dance songs and the oldies.
Gates open at 7 p.m. and the concert begins at 8 p.m. Admission is $5 per person.
Bring your lawn chairs and kick back under the stars for a great concert.
Members of the Pocola Board of Trustees and the Pocola Municipal Authority are scheduled to have a meeting Thursday at 5:30 p.m. According to the agenda presented by the town the board plans to discuss and possibly vote to send city employee John Limbocker to the WESTEC Conference in New Orleans. The city would pay his airfare and hotel as well as give him a daily perdiem to attend. The conference is necessary for the sewer expansion project the city is considering.
A Shady Point man has been charged with second degree rape after he allegedly had a sexual encounter at his home.
Zachary Thomas Underwood, 20, of Shady Point, was charged after he reportedly picked up four juveniles in Arkansas and took them to his home in Shady Point.
According to the affidavit, Underwood provided the juveniles with alcohol and later he had sexual intercourse with one of them.
Underwood was arrested and has since been released on a $15,000 bond.

A local author who took his love of history to a new level by publishing his first book is already planning his second.
Eric Standridge, 35, of Wister, recently published the book "The Birth of Poteau" with the help of co-author and editor George B. Shaw. The book details the historical events leading up to the incorporation of the City of Poteau until the Great Depression.
According to the LeFlore County Commissioners, until the governor of Oklahoma rescinds her burn ban, it will still be illegal to burn in LeFlore County.
According to Michael Davidson, director of LeFlore County Emergency Management, Gov. Mary Fallin ordered a burn ban on Aug. 3 to last until Sept. 3. With her proclamation still in effect, the county commissioners determined the local burn ban would remain in effect as well.
