The National Weather Service has issued a significant weather advisory [ 3 p.m. June 20] for LeFlore County. Strong storms will affect the area until 3:30 p.m.
The storms will be capable of producing strong wind gusts and dime size hail
Christopher Kenyon Simpson, convicted of the 2013 Easter Sunday double slaying of 20-year-old Ka'Loni Flynn and her unborn child.
Flynn was found shot to death in her car on McGinnis Lane near Spiro.
Simpson's court appearance today [June 20] at 1:30 p.m. in the LeFlore County Courthouse is in regard to his appeal at the state level.
Simpson was convicted in October and given two life sentences in November.
The Oklahoma Blood Institute will hold a blood drive Friday, June 20, at Walmart in Poteau.

Tara Engetschwiler was one of 53 students to accept their GED during graduation ceremonies Tuesday [June 17] night at the Donald W. Reynolds Community Center.
The students completed their studies at the Adult Learning Center in Poteau.
Traffic was delayed Friday [June 19] at about 3:30 p.m. as Rock Island Police, Pocola Police and Oklahoma Highway Patrol investigate a four-car accident near backbone mountain.
No other information is available at this time.

The Poteau Daily News and the Poteau Chamber of Commerce is hosting "Meet the Candidates" tonight [June 12] at the Donald W. Reynolds Community Center in Poteau at 7 p.m.
Sixteen county, state and national candidates will take the stage during a public forum to answer questions about current issues.
The event is free and open to the public.

Carl Albert State College will hold their Regents Meeting today, June 10, at the college campus in Poteau, at 1:00 p.m.
