Fourth-annual La Fiesta set tomorrow

Friends of Patrick Lynch Public Library's La Fiesta is set tomorrow.

The event will take place on Thursday, Sep. 18, from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Donald W. Reynolds Center in Poteau.

The fundraising fiesta will feature a taco bar and live auction, with several items up for bid. Proceeds raised will go to benefit the library.

Tickets are $20 in advance and $25 at the door.
Tickets can be purchased the Patrick Lynch Public Library.

This is the Friends' fourth-annual La Fiesta benefit. They raised $12,000 in 2012 that went to benefit library programs, camps and furnishings.

Three injured in wreck

September 15, 2014

Three people were injured Sunday in an accident in Hughes County.
According to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, Jennifer Mayo, 39, from Wilburton was driving a 2014 Kia south on U.S. Highway 75 at about 11:56 a.m. when the driver of an oncoming car turned left in front of her.
Mayo and her passenger, 59-year-old Wyma Mayo both were taken by Hughes County EMS to O.U. Medical Center and are listed in serious condition with multiple injuries. A 2-year-old child in Mayo's car was not injured, according to the accident report.

Poteau Upper Elementary parent-teacher meetings this week

Groundbreaking ceremony set for marshals museum

FORT SMITH, Ark. (AP) — Officials have scheduled a formal groundbreaking ceremony for the U.S. Marshals Museum in Fort Smith.

The Times Record reports (http://bit.ly/1tUxr7V ) that the hour-long ceremony is set for Sept. 24 for the estimated $50 million project to commemorate the 225th anniversary of the creation of the U.S. Marshals Service.

The museum is to be built on the banks of the Arkansas River in Fort Smith — overlooking Oklahoma.
